DIRTYBIRD brings us a new and intriguing EP of Strafe’s “Set it Off” remixes by Justin Martin. Although the same song is being incorporated on this two-tracker release, the feel of each remix stands on their own as Justin Martin shows what variety he’s capable of. The first remix, which had been a favored ID in his sets for quite some time, is an upwards, forward moving track with fatty synths and more of a classic breaks feel. The voice of Strafe is really highlighted in this one with a perfect incorporation of the main hook.
Meanwhile, the second track brings more of a down tempo industrial-house type of feel, with more simplicity in sounds. It has a large build that makes you ready for the drop as soon as it hits and is surely to have you grooving. Justin Martin has really shown his ability to master both tech and industrial house with his mashup of sounds and structures.
What sets these remixes apart, however, is that Justin Martin is in fact the first artist ever to be granted the title of “official remixer” by Strafe himself. This feat is made even bigger by the fact that Martin, a dance music talent, joins the ranks of megastars 50 Cent, Jennifer Lopez, and more to be granted sampling rights of the song. Thus, this release becomes one of both Martin’s, and DIRTYBIRD’s biggest releases to day.
