Tickets for this year’s Desert Hearts Festival went on sale Friday and have already sold out early arrival, car and RV camping passes. You can still snag a GA ticket for $270, but this nearly 5,000 person gathering at the Los Coyotes Indian Reservation in Southern California sold out within a few weeks last year, so act quickly! Seriously, do it NOW!
Taking place April 26-29th, a week after Coachella, this event resides on the opposite side of the festival spectrum as that massively popular mainstream fest. Desert Hearts has a “One Stage, One Vibe” policy, so there won’t be conflicting music sets between multiple stages. Instead, the music goes non-stop from 12 noon Friday to 4 PM Monday, engendering a continuous wavelength of house, techno and love throughout the naturally intimate crowd.
This festival in the desert attracts the kind of vibes, community and costumes you’d find at Burning Man on a smaller scale with much less of the hassle, but similar guiding principles. For experienced or first-time Burners, this fest makes for an ideal training ground and lead-up to the Black Rock City journey. It’s all about the Desert Hearts family coming together, individuals and groups bringing something special to the table and sharing, interacting and partying with those around them.
About a dozen themed camps populated the grounds last year, as well as all sorts of art, installations and activity areas peppering the forest surrounding the stage . Workshops and a healing sanctuary provide additional venues for connection, creativity and relaxation. Those with something to contribute or present in this realm or the arts are encouraged to apply.
The days heat up while the desert nights can drop to the 30s, offering a perfect opportunity to dust off those fur coats, layered looks and heavy outfits that prove too hot for most summer fests. And like Burning Man, camping follows the leave no trace precepts. There are food vendors on-site, but water is limited, so attendees must bring their own supply.
The lineup last year wasn’t announced till several weeks prior to the event, but you can expect the Desert Hearts mainstays Mikey Lion, Lee Reynolds, Marbs and Porky to lead a supremely satisfying number of other DJs on the Desert Hearts label and friends of the crew.
