World-renowned electronic music pioneer deadmau5 is stepping into 2026 with fresh momentum, unveiling his new vocal single “Science” featuring Stevie Appleton, out today (February 20) via mau5trap. The release follows last year’s instrumental offering “Ameonna,” marking a return to the vocal-driven territory that has defined some of his most enduring work.

London’s rising singer, songwriter, and producer Stevie Appleton brings his distinctive tone and melodic finesse to the track, delivering a performance that balances restraint and intrigue. Known for his versatility as a collaborator, Appleton adds depth and character to “Science,” positioning it alongside some of deadmau5’ most memorable vocal records, including “The Veldt,” “Raise Your Weapon,” “Bridged By A Lightwave,” and, with Kaskade as Kx5, the iconic “I Remember” and Top 40 hit “Escape.”

“Steve sent the vocal through, thought it was neat so I made a track with it,” shares deadmau5, characteristically understated about the creative process.

For Stevie Appleton, the track’s power lies in its minimalism. “I found there ended up being a nice simplicity in ‘Science.’ There was a lot more in the song before I cut it down to just four lines, each of which I feel like carry a certain feeling. Is it a dark energy, a loving one? It’s a bit of a mystery and I wanted to keep it that way. What deadmau5 has done with the production and the continuation of the songwriting is incredible. I’ve worked with a lot of big DJ/producers and gotten versions back of songs I’ve started on a piano, but this one was a different game. It should be a marker for the quality young producers are trying to achieve.

I’m excited for the world to hear what we’ve made, especially the full 9.30m length version — it takes you on a ride like a piece of cinema.”

With “Science,” deadmau5 once again demonstrates his ability to evolve while maintaining the emotional and sonic depth that has influenced generations of studio producers. As 2026 unfolds, more new music and developments from the electronic heavyweight are expected soon.
