When you think of Trance music, you can’t help but think of Darude and his enthralling classic “Sandstorm”. You hum the tune in your head and the epic whirlwind of driving rhythms take over your entire being. It was the first ubiquitous electronic song for most of my generation and one so ingrained in the cultural consciousness that it’s often even included on wedding reception playlists.
We had the chance to sit down with Mr. Sandstorm himself at Imagine Festival 2019, and the Finnish DJ couldn’t have been nicer or more humble! We discussed some of his unique interactions with audiences, how he’s witnessed and evolved with the progression of electronic music over the past two decades, and how he keeps his iconic hit fresh in live sets with artful mixing.
