Today, Parisian house music maestro Dan Ghenacia—renowned for his work with Apollonia—unveils the highly anticipated music video for the title track of his Rouge ou Noir EP. Directed by acclaimed Australian animator Lucy Dyson, the video offers a surreal and playful visual accompaniment to Ghenacia’s “spacey, synthy, sexy, and simply funky swirl,” as described by Billboard.
The animated video takes inspiration from the EP’s circular-themed artwork, weaving the protagonist through a whimsical narrative of love and mystery. From spinning casino roulette tables to energetic dancefloors, the video captures the vibrant and psychedelic essence of the track. The pursuit of a mysterious love interest culminates in a fantastical, dream-like resolution.
Director Lucy Dyson, who has worked with icons like Paul McCartney and Beyoncé, highlights the texture-focused approach behind the video: “It was important to me that the collage style animation had a lot of texture. Frames were printed out and then re-shot to give a particular texture I couldn’t get digitally. We also incorporated rotoscoped video footage to really push the surreal dream-trip experience.” The roulette wheel served as a central visual cue, driving the psychedelic narrative through a playful, James Bond-esque cat-and-mouse love chase.
Dan Ghenacia has been a driving force in the house music scene for over 25 years, DJing, hosting parties, and running essential labels. His Rouge ou Noir EP showcases his deep understanding of the genre. Reflecting on the creation of the EP, Ghenacia shares: “Everything unfolded at a dizzying pace.
