Detroit techno legend Carl Craig has unveiled the official soundtrack to Desire: The Carl Craig Story, out today digitally via his iconic label Planet E Communications. The expansive 17-track collection traces his boundary-pushing career across decades, monikers, and sonic frontiers—offering an unprecedented glimpse into one of electronic music’s most visionary catalogs. Physical formats, including a 2×12” vinyl and CD edition, will follow on July 18, 2025.

Anchored by the hypnotic “Azure (Carl Craig C2 Remix)” from Slam, the compilation journeys through Craig’s genre-defining contributions under legendary aliases like 69, Psyche/BFC, Innerzone Orchestra, and Designer Music. Among the rarities included is the never-before-digitally-released 2000 track “The Truth” and “No More Words,” a foundational piece first issued in 1991. These deep cuts sit alongside career-spanning highlights and collaborations with artists closely associated with Planet E, including Moritz von Oswald, Mirko Loko, Recloose, and Urban Tribe.

Serving as both a retrospective and a sonic companion to the upcoming documentary Desire: The Carl Craig Story, the soundtrack underscores Craig’s innovative spirit and his role in shaping the global sound of techno. Directed by Jean-Cosme Delaloye and produced by Sovereign Films, the documentary follows Carl’s personal and artistic evolution—from his Detroit roots and early inspiration in the Motor City’s Black middle class to his ascent as a global cultural force. The film weaves through pivotal moments in Craig’s life and legacy, from his high-concept collaborations with Bottega Veneta to the creation of his immersive Party/After-Party sound installation, now part of the Detroit Institute of Arts collection and previously exhibited at MOCA Los Angeles.

With Desire: The Carl Craig Story – Official Soundtrack, Craig offers longtime fans and newcomers alike a curated roadmap through his enduring influence. It’s a landmark release not only for techno but for the broader story of Black innovation in modern music.

Digital version out now. Vinyl and CD available July 18 via Planet E Communications.
