Calvin Harris makes history, first DJ to headline Coachella!
Grammy Award winning electronic dance music artist Calvin Harris made history on Sunday, April 17 as the multi-platinum selling artist became the first DJ to headline the globally recognized music festival, Coachella in Indio, California. The artist, who was joined onstage by internationally recognized music acts: Rihanna, Big Shaun and John Newman, in a range of special guest performances, will be making a highly-anticipated return to the headlining performance slot next week as he is scheduled to perform next Sunday, April 24.
The landmark debut, which also unveiled a range of innovative production elements scaled particularly for Harris’s Coachella performance, also premiered customized software that featured the “largest concentration of light ever used” in any performance with: programmed lights, videos, and lasers accompanying throughout.
In response his recent unveiling of stadium scaled production elements, Calvin Harris stated in a press release, “I’m very proud of the new stage show we’ve put together and couldn’t be more thankful to everyone who stayed out to party last night.”

Paul Macrae, head of touring at Three Six Zero further added, “We wanted to deliver an innovative and immersive show that compliments Calvin’s performance. It was very important for him to maintain his DJ workflow rather than playing back a time coded track. We gave him this flexibility along with pinpoint timing on all lighting and video cues, something rarely achieved.”
His performance this past Sunday marked Harris’s second appearance at Coachella. In 2014, the artist reportedly drew one of the largest audiences the music festival has seen in its history. Having recently extended his residency deal at the OMNIA Nightclub at Caesars Palace in Las Vegas, the artist is expected to perform on select dates throughout 2016 for those unable to catch his Coachella appearance.
