Afro House legends Black Motion are set to release a stirring remix of San Franciscan duo Karmacoda’s single “Time” on March 6th via Sola Musa Music. The remix transforms the introspective original into a hypnotic Afro House journey, anchored by kinetic percussion, swirling arpeggios, and rich rhythmic textures. Fans can pre-save the track ahead of its release.
Critics have praised Black Motion’s unique approach:
- “Black Motion’s remix retains the emotional content of the original while adapting it into an Afro House format… hypnotic arpeggios and rhythmic textures.” – Music In Africa
- “Their fresh take on drum-driven house music is a collision of timeless, hypnotic rhythms and the dynamism and electricity of South Africa’s burgeoning house movement.” – Okay Africa
- “What Thabo ‘Smol’ Mabogwane and Kabelo ‘Problem Child Ten83’ Koma do is take the drum and thump it, hard… laced with the sound of the township, gospel, the taxi rank, the Sunday shebeen and the late-night club.” – TimesLIVE
Formed in 2010, Black Motion—founder Thabo Mabogwane and Kabelo “Problem Child Ten83” Koma—have become one of South Africa’s most influential dance acts. With Gold- and Platinum-certified projects, multiple South African Music Award wins, and a celebrated NPR Tiny Desk performance, their mastery of percussion and Afro-house textures is widely recognized.
Karmacoda, comprising Jessica Ford (vocals), Brett Crockett (vocals/producer), and Eric Matsuno (bass/multi-instrumentalist), has built a two-decade career spanning electronica, trip-hop, R&B, and dream pop. Their 2022 LP Lessons In Time featured the original version of “Time,” a contemplative track exploring regret and introspection through delicate piano chords, subtle vocals, and a mesmerizing melody.
With their remix, Black Motion retain the track’s emotional core while transforming it into a pulsating Afro House number. Fans of Caiiro, Culoe De Song, Sun-El Musician, and Black Coffee will find themselves drawn in by the rhythmic energy and hypnotic layering.
Black Motion shared:
“The ‘Time’ remix was born from a conversation with the ancestors, a reminder that time is not just counted, it is felt in the drum and carried in the spirit. We approached it as a ritual in sound, where rhythm becomes memory and melody becomes prayer. It is our offering to the eternal pulse that guides us beyond the clock.”
