Nearly two decades after captivating audiences with hits like “Dirty Laundry” and “The Mating Game,” Bitter:Sweet is making a triumphant return. Now led by Shana Halligan, the pioneering Los Angeles pop and trip-hop act will release its highly anticipated album, Baby Is Back, on April 25, 2025. The album’s electrifying title track, “Baby Is Back,” has been making waves since its January 31 release. The song quickly earned KCRW’s Top Tune of the Day, landed a band performance on 88.5 FM’s The SoCal Sound Sessions, and has been added to Kiehl’s in-store playlists as well as AMC movie theaters nationwide.
“I’m here, and I’m ready,” says Shana Halligan about the new single. “I wanted to make a big-band, swinging banger that stays true to Bitter:Sweet’s roots while propelling our music into this exciting new era. The band’s music has always been about freedom, vibrancy, and limitless creativity, and this album takes that even further.”
Baby Is Back marks Bitter:Sweet’s first full-length release since 2010’s The Break Up EP and represents both an evolution and a return to form. Created with producers Verskotzi, Tony Esterly, and DRMS, the album blends electronic music, jazz, and classic Hollywood influences, reinforcing Halligan’s unmistakable vocal presence. Following “Baby Is Back,” the next single, “Rise,” is set to drop March 28.
Halligan has remained an influential voice in adult-contemporary electronic music, working with Serj Tankian (System of a Down), Thievery Corporation (“Depth of My Soul”), Nouvelle Vague, and The String Theory. With over 500,000 albums sold and more than 350 million streams across Spotify, Apple Music, and Pandora, Bitter:Sweet’s return signals a bold new chapter in its storied career.
