In these trying times, mental health has to be a priority. While we all yearn to be reunited on the dance floor, we have to find ways to fill that void until it is safe to do so again. While budgets can be tight, one man is going above and beyond to fill that void. The one, the only, Billy Kenny. Between starting a weekly live stream, dropping a hot new single with Wongo titled “Shake It”, and constructing a new in-home studio he has been quite the busy man. Just when you think there couldn’t be more, he surprises us all with a 100% free EP dubbed “Archives”. Spoiler alert, it’s a doozie.
The EP opens up with “Take The Lot”, a rhythmic and wonky dance floor shaker. It’s eerie basslines and sophisticated synths represent a sound that has come to be synonymous with Billy Kenny. The second track is called “Feels So Right”. It begins a bit slower with some measured drums, building to a sexy vocal line that is followed by powerful Acid House-ish vibes. The EP is brought home by “The Baseline”. This track is my personal favorite as it manages to put a smile on your face, instantly move your hips, and make stank bass face all at one time.
