Award-winning artist and producer Ben Böhmer has released his latest single, “Rust,” as the anticipation builds for his third studio album, Bloom, set to drop on September 27 via Ninja Tune.
While Ben Böhmer’s recent singles have marked a departure from his signature sound, as he seeks to break free from preconceptions, “Rust” serves as a nostalgic callback for fans who have cherished his earlier work. Albums like Begin Again (2021) and Breathing (2019) brought Ben immense success, with nearly a billion plays and over 200 shows in 2022 alone. However, he found himself pulled in a direction that didn’t fully represent his artistic vision. Identifying more as a composer and songwriter, Ben crafted Bloom as a creative reset, showcasing the full scope of his talent. Within this context, “Rust” proves that the dreamy, melodic house sound that fans love is still a vital part of his music, even as he continues to evolve.
“Rust” follows the previously released singles “Hiding,” a collaboration with award-winning dream pop icon Lykke Li, supported by Pitchfork, and the lead single “Best Life,” featuring one of Ben’s favorite collaborators, JONAH. The new track is a powerful, piano-led composition with a steady rhythm, punctuated by orchestral crescendos and delicate interludes that evoke the rich emotions Ben Böhmer is known for.
Fresh from several major performances, including festivals like Lollapalooza, Sonar by Night, and Electric Forest, Ben has also served as direct support for ODESZA at The Gorge, BMO Stadium, and Madison Square Garden. Looking ahead, he will conclude his North American tour with a stop at Portola before embarking on an Australian tour, where he’s on track to sell out across the continent, performing in music halls across Brisbane, Sydney, and Melbourne (already sold out). He will then return to Europe for a series of massive fall shows, including a stop at the Great Hall of Alexandra Palace, with a total capacity of 46,000.
Ben Böhmer’s music and live performances have garnered widespread acclaim from both fans and tastemakers. In 2023, he completed his biggest-ever North American live tour while reaching 4 million monthly Spotify listeners and amassing over 1.3 million social followers across all platforms. His Cercle set has surpassed 32 million views, making it one of the top 10 most-viewed electronic music sets of all time on YouTube. Ben has shared festival stages with artists like Caribou, Four Tet, Bicep, Jamie xx, and Amelie Lens, and in 2022, he launched Portraet, his four-night residency at the open-air Ibiza club Cova Santa, enlisting talents like Barry Can’t Swim, HAAi, and Sofia Kourtesis to perform alongside him.
