Today, Ben Böhmer and Lykke Li, two acclaimed musicians who have carved unique paths in the music industry, present a dazzling collaboration with “Hiding,” the second single from Böhmer‘s upcoming studio album, Bloom, set for release on September 27 via Ninja Tune.
“Hiding” brilliantly blends elements of indie, pop, and electronica, featuring Ben‘s lush pads and uplifting melodies, complemented by Lykke Li‘s signature vocals over crisp breakbeats. Ben remarks on the new release, “It’s a song that I’ve always wanted to write.” This single continues to push Ben beyond the conventional boundaries of his genre, earning the respect of indie icons like Lykke Li. “Hiding” is her first original collaboration since 2019, making it a rare and special release.
Throughout her distinguished 20+-year career, Lykke Li has collaborated with artists such as Drake, U2, Skrillex, and Mark Ronson, who once dubbed her the “high priestess of heartbreak and sadness.” She has earned multiple Grammis awards in Sweden and is celebrated as one of the top names in indie pop by respected outlets like Billboard, Pitchfork, NME, and The Guardian. Her music has been featured in films like Twilight; she has also acted in the crime thriller Tommy and Terrence Malick‘s Song to Song.
Ben Böhmer recently performed at major festivals, including Sonar by Night and Electric Forest, and supported ODESZA at venues like The Gorge, BMO Stadium, and Madison Square Garden. He is set to wrap up his North American tour with appearances at Lollapalooza and Portola, followed by an Australian tour with shows in Brisbane, Sydney, and Melbourne. After that, he will return to Europe for a series of fall performances, including a stop at the Great Hall of Alexandra Palace.
Ben‘s music and live performances have garnered widespread acclaim from both fans and critics. In 2023, he completed the largest-ever North American live tour for an electronic artist, reaching 3.6 million monthly listeners on Spotify. His Cercle set has amassed over 32 million views, making it one of the top 10 most-viewed electronic music sets on YouTube. He has shared festival stages with artists like Caribou, Four Tet, Bicep, Jamie xx, and Amelie Lens, and in 2022, he launched Portraet, a four-night residency at the open-air Ibiza club Cova Santa, featuring performances by Barry Can’t Swim, HAAi, Sofia Kourtesis, and more.
After the massive success of his previous records, which accumulated nearly 1 billion streams, Ben found himself being pulled away from his true artistic direction due to a grueling tour schedule of over 200 shows in 2022. Bloom marks a reset, a confident return to his improvisational roots and personal artistic desires. The album showcases Ben‘s composing and songwriting talents alongside collaborations with Lykke Li, Oh Wonder, Enfant Sauvage (of the French duo The Blaze), JONAH (featured on the previous single “Best Life”), and others.
