Bass Coast Festival has announced its 2020 theme and it’s got me already shaking with excitement. For those of you who do not know, Bass Coast has been incorporating themes into their festival since the move to its incredible new home in Merritt, BC seven years ago. The themes have provoked creativity for stage design and performers, but as well has given attendees the opportunity to fuse together some fantastic costumes, adding that extra element to their fest experience. Last year’s theme, Duality, brought to light the simplistic beauty of dualism which I had never really given any thought to before. I ended up leaving the festival with an awareness of opposition- darkness, light. Hot, cold. Black, white. It was truly magnificent.
Taking advantage of the arrival into the new decade of the twenties, Bass Coast has announced that their theme this year is Future Deco. “Future Deco is a vision in which the beauty of the past weaves into an unfolding future. Hold hands between time and take creative responsibility as the architects of tomorrow. As much human as machine. As much future as past.” This theme is a nod to the art deco aesthetic of the 1920s paired with a look to the unfolding potential of the century that lies ahead.
Along with the announcement of their theme comes the first wave of artists for their 12th year happening July 10th-13th, 2020. Artists include Claude VonStroke, Justin Martin, Ben UFO, The Funk Hunters, The Librarian, and more!
