ANOTR Redefines Their Sound with Bold Second Album On A Trip Out Now

ANOTR, the ever-evolving duo known for their innovative approach to electronic music, has released their highly anticipated second album, On A Trip, out now via their own label, No Art. This 10-track journey marks their most experimental and introspective work to date, blending shimmering disco, hypnotic alt-soul, raw post-punk/krautrock, and uplifting indie dance. It’s a bold departure from their club-focused house roots, showcasing a more expansive sonic palette.

The album was written and recorded during a series of psychedelic creative retreats in Ibiza, Los Angeles, and the Netherlands, where the duo embraced mind-expanding experiences, including microdosing psilocybin mushrooms to unlock new creative pathways. These experiences allowed ANOTR to break free from traditional structures, experiment with live instrumentation, and record their own vocals for the first time, particularly on standout tracks like ‘SET IT ON FIRE’, ‘Care For You’, ‘Bad Trip’, and ‘Living In A Dream’.

“It’s the scariest thing we’ve ever done music-wise,” the duo reveals. “But we had a lot of fun doing it.”

On On A Trip, ANOTR also collaborates with an impressive roster of artists, including GRAMMY-nominated Cuban artist Cimafunk, PAMÉ, Kurtis Wells, Leven Kali, Tyler Daley, and Erik Bandt. Previously released singles like ‘24 (Turn It Up)’, ‘How You Feel’, and ‘SET IT ON FIRE’ hint at the album’s expansive and genre-blurring nature. The disco-infused focus track ‘Currency’ and alt-soul single ‘Care For You’ further highlight the duo’s evolution from their earlier tech house-driven sound to a more eclectic and boundary-pushing style.

This creative transformation began during the COVID-19 pandemic when ANOTR began hosting retreats as a way to connect with friends, family, and musicians outside of the confines of a traditional studio. They explain:
“We rent a house in the middle of nowhere, surround ourselves with nature, and invite friends, family, and musicians to connect. We go for walks, make dinner, and talk a lot. The studio is always there when we feel like it, and the music comes from a place of want, not need.”

Themes of self-discovery, connection, and the duo’s view of the world are explored in-depth on On A Trip. The duo reflects:
“After our last album, we tried making the same music, but it didn’t feel right. So we started every project with a blank canvas, experimenting with tempos and breaking boundaries. It’s about stepping outside of our comfort zone again.”

On A Trip follows the duo’s 2022 debut album, The Reset, and continues their journey of sonic experimentation and artistic growth. The album represents both a creative and personal evolution for ANOTR, a testament to their fearless exploration of new ideas and sounds.

Through No Art, ANOTR has cultivated a global community of like-minded fans, hosting sold-out events in São Paulo, Ibiza, Athens, Miami, and beyond. Looking ahead, the duo is planning to create a permanent retreat house and studio in The Netherlands, where they can continue nurturing their creativity and push boundaries in music.

On A Trip is now available on all platforms, marking a new chapter for ANOTR as they continue to redefine their sound and shape the future of electronic music.
