ANiML Unveils Psychedelic Mini Album Star Walk via StrataSonic

Enigmatic producer ANiML returns to the Los Angeles-based freeform label StrataSonic with the release of his six-track mini album, Star Walk. Out now, the project expands on the cinematic trip-hop and cavernous dub aesthetics introduced in previous releases like “Breather” and “Bruv,” blending psychedelic textures, ghostly samples, and hypnotic rhythms into a genre-bending sonic journey.

A Sonic and Visual Experience

Each track on Star Walk unveils a distinct yet interconnected world, from the delay-soaked post-rock guitars of “Cherry” to the mischievous marimba melodies and ghostly vocals of “BabyD.” The album balances organic instrumentation with digital experimentation, resulting in a soundscape that is both dreamlike and deeply immersive.

The release is accompanied by a new music video for “Bruv,” directed by Spanish visual artist YZA Voku, known for his work with The Weeknd, Swedish House Mafia, Hï Ibiza, and XG. The video unfolds in a noir-inspired aesthetic, using stark black, white, and red visuals to depict shadowy figures moving through dimly lit alleys and smoke-filled ballrooms. The visuals seamlessly blend real footage with AI-assisted transformations, incorporating Runway’s video-to-video tools, Midjourney sequences, and analog-inspired effects to create a striking fusion of the real and synthetic.

“This type of work challenges the notion that AI is merely a shortcut in art, embracing its potential as a tool for artistic evolution at a time when musicians are increasingly integrating AI into their visual storytelling.”
