Belgian pop phenomenon Angèle returns with her electrifying new single “What You Want,” created alongside French electronic powerhouse duo Justice. The track arrives via Angèle VL Records and Because Music, delivering a bold collision of pop precision and club-driven intensity. Accompanying the release is a striking music video developed with (LA)HORDE—the visionary trio behind the Ballet National de Marseille, known for collaborations with Madonna, Sam Smith, and Christine and the Queens.

What You Want” marks a pivotal moment in Angèle’s evolving catalog. The release follows the global spotlight of her performance at the 2024 Paris Olympics, where she joined Phoenix and Kavinsky for a widely celebrated rendition of “Nightcall” that dominated Shazam charts worldwide. After billions of streams, her hit collaboration “Fever” with Dua Lipa, a Netflix documentary titled Angèle, campaigns with CHANEL, appearances at New York Fashion Week alongside A$AP Rocky, and her first U.S. tour including Coachella, the new single feels like a continuation of her expanding global moment—this time sharper and more unfiltered.

Reflecting on the collaboration, Angèle explained:

“I went to say hi in their dressing room after their show, which I’d loved. It was the first time we met, and we talked a lot about our careers and our creative visions. I spontaneously suggested they come to the studio. We spent an afternoon listening to the demos I’d been working on on my computer. I had this track, ‘What You Want,’ a slightly sultry, sensual, offbeat song I’d written. But since I wasn’t completely satisfied with it, I’d put it aside. I thought Justice could bring the electro-club expertise — and the tension — that were missing from that first version. After we met, I sent them the demo, and they came back with this version that I found absolutely brilliant. They understood everything. They brought a power to the track that the intention and balance had been missing. Bringing our worlds together without losing our identities — that’s the greatest success of this song.”

Members of Justice, Xavier de Rosnay and Gaspard Augé, echoed that sentiment:

“Spending a bit of time with Angèle confirmed the intuition we had about her: she’s an excellent musician and producer. Making ‘What You Want’ with her felt as easy as it was natural. Although her music is different from ours, the track called for something sensual and brutal that we instinctively connected with, without compromise.”

For (LA)HORDE, the collaboration represents an exciting cultural crossover:

“We wondered how, after the Olympic buzz around her collaboration with Phoenix and Kavinsky, a woman of her generation could make the codes of the French Touch her own — a powerful artistic movement, but also a very male-dominated one. We found it incredibly exciting to support this meeting between the fathers of electro and Angèle’s own universe.”

The track merges Angèle’s intimate pop sensibility with Justice’s industrial-edged electronic sound, resulting in a powerful blend of emotion and club energy. The collaboration began in December 2024 when Angèle attended a Justice show in Brussels with her mother. After meeting backstage, she invited the duo to her studio and shared a demo she felt still needed something more. Her simple instruction—“Do what you want with it”—sparked the transformation that ultimately became “What You Want.”

Lyrically, Angèle moves fluidly between English and French, delivering lines that balance intimacy with collective release: “What you want / I’m only / What you want / c’est pour la vie.”

The accompanying video expands on the song’s themes of love, freedom, and empowerment. Shot overnight on an iPhone 17 Pro in the backstreets of Marseille, the visual unfolds across a laundromat, city streets, and a bar. Directed by (LA)HORDE, the cinematic piece features dancer Nora Monsecour in a restless chase fueled by desire, with Angèle embodying a magnetic figure who challenges taboos and expectations. The camera stays close to bodies and faces, capturing the choreography and energy of the night with a raw, immersive perspective.

“What You Want” stands as a bold declaration from Angèle, capturing an artist fully aligned with her vision and global momentum. Rather than signaling an arrival, the single reinforces what audiences already know: Angèle is firmly at the forefront of contemporary pop.
