Adam F presents ‘Colours Revisited,’ a long-anticipated, fully re-recorded reimagining of his MOBO Award-winning debut album, set for release on February 21st via 181 Recordings—nearly three decades after the original.
Released in 1997, ‘Colours’ was a trailblazing fusion of jazz, funk, cinematic soundscapes, and razor-sharp drum & bass rhythms. Featuring collaborations with MC Conrad, Tracey Thorn (Everything But The Girl), and jazz legend Ronnie Jordan, the album’s forward-thinking sound earned it the 1998 MOBO Award for Best Album and influenced a new wave of drum & bass pioneers, including Goldie, Roni Size, and Photek.
A Musical Rebirth Spanning Two Years
The idea for ‘Colours Revisited’ was sparked by the resurgence of ‘Circles,’ a UK Top 10 hit, after PinkPantheress approached Adam F to reproduce elements for her breakout track ‘Break It Off’ in 2021. This led to an extensive two-year process of meticulously reconstructing the album, tracking down original data discs, restoring vintage instruments—including his Fender Rhodes electric piano and Clavinet—and bringing in some of the UK’s finest jazz musicians like Julian Joseph, who contributed to the original album.
The late MC Conrad re-recorded his verses for ‘F-Jam Revisited’, while Kirsty Hawkshaw (Opus III) stepped in to re-sing ‘The Tree Knows Everything’, a song Adam F originally wrote at age 15.
Reviving Classics With a Fresh Edge
Among the reimagined tracks, ‘Metropolis Revisited’ breathes new life into a jungle staple, refining its signature gritty drum breaks, distorted basslines, and dystopian atmospherics. Originally released on Metalheadz, the track remains a defining moment in the evolution of darker, tech-driven drum & bass.
‘Circles Revisited (Extended)’ introduces a never-before-heard intro—a hypnotic, reverb-soaked saxophone layered over a field recording, setting the stage for the legendary groove. Meanwhile, ‘F-Jam Revisited’ arrives as a tribute to MC Conrad, with all live instruments—trumpet, percussion, guitar, and flute—newly recorded to honor his legacy.
