The single’s genesis is a testament to the group’s enduring creative bond. Originally an instrumental from Paavo Siljamäki’s archives, the track simmered for nearly a decade before Tony McGuinness unearthed a lyric that brought it back to life: “There’s enough of you in me to start a fire.” Inspired by a notebook scribble and shaped into full verses during a moment of solitude at The Gorge Amphitheatre, McGuinness wrote lyrics and melody that rekindled a collective spark among the trio.
“When we all work together to make something happen, something bigger happens,” the trio—Jono, Paavo, and Tony—reflect. And on ‘Start A Fire’, that synergy is palpable. The final piece came with the unmistakable voice of longtime collaborator Richard Bedford, who adds emotional weight and familiarity to a track already brimming with warmth, nostalgia, and new energy.
