Following the momentum of DJ Q’s explosive single “Lose My Cool,” fabric SELECTS returns for its seventh installment on May 15 with a tightly curated collection of forward-thinking UK Garage and bass music. Released via fabric Records, the new compilation captures the pulse of today’s underground club landscape through a mix of established innovators and rising producers shaping the next era of the scene.
The exclusive vinyl sampler features five original cuts pulled from the larger VA compilation, offering a snapshot of the energy currently driving dancefloors across the UK and beyond. Bringing together a broad cross-section of artists from across the garage and bass spectrum, fabric SELECTS VII includes contributions from DJ Q, Bodhi, Ghoulish, 1111, Gemi, Kori, Daffy, PJ Bridger, Eloquin & Reimond, SEMPA, TARZI, Me & George, Jessi Lowkey, Lash, anse., and KAISUI.
Leading the release is DJ Q’s “Lose My Cool,” a modern speed garage cut rooted in early-2000s UKG aesthetics. Driven by rolling low-end pressure, shuffled percussion, and autotuned vocal hooks, the track bridges nostalgia and contemporary club energy with precision. At the heart of the compilation, however, sits Ghoulish’s focus track “This Bassline Smells Like Oil,” a murky and immersive production built around a grimy, industrial-textured bassline that defines the darker atmosphere running throughout the project.
Elsewhere, Bodhi leans into weighty low-end movement and stripped-back tension, while 1111 injects melodic urgency through sped-up vocal chops and constantly evolving rhythmic structures reminiscent of classic garage. Gemi and Kori further distill the sound into tightly wound rhythmic club cuts, emphasizing groove and restraint over excess.
Daffy and PJ Bridger bring direct soundsystem energy designed for maximum impact, while Eloquin & Reimond drift into deeper and more atmospheric territory, embracing the shadowier side of bass music. Further into the compilation, SEMPA delivers a rolling, percussion-driven club track, while TARZI intensifies the pressure with darker, heavier production choices.
The compilation also balances its intensity with moments of warmth and emotional texture. Me & George inject a more carefree energy without abandoning the release’s low-end focus, while Jessi Lowkey introduces smoother vocal-led dynamics layered over deep garage rhythms. Lash contributes a sharp, high-impact UK bass weapon, while anse. opts for tension and atmosphere, allowing subtle shifts in texture to drive the narrative rather than relying on traditional drops or peaks.
Closing the compilation, KAISUI delivers a deep, immersive finale centered on spacious production and heavyweight bass presence, rounding out a project deeply connected to the physical and emotional energy of underground club culture.
