Independent event producer Whet Travel has unveiled Shattered Shores, a brand-new cruise experience set to debut in 2027. Built from years of organic growth through Taking Back Emo events and onboard takeovers during Groove Cruise, the concept now evolves into a fully realized, standalone sailing shaped by its community from the ground up.
The inaugural edition of Shattered Shores will take place aboard the Margaritaville at Sea Beachcomber, a newly launched ship featuring the first artist-designed live music venue at sea, the world’s largest “5 o’Clock Somewhere,” and immersive Bridge Wing Suites with expansive outdoor spaces. The setting reflects a continued push toward blending large-scale production with intimate, experience-driven design.
At its core, Shattered Shores builds on what returning attendees—known as Captains—recognize as the Groove Effect: a shared sense of connection, identity, and belonging that extends far beyond the event itself. Rather than leaning on nostalgia, the sailing is positioned as a forward-facing evolution, transforming past moments into something new and lasting.
Across multiple days, the experience will bring together live bands and DJ performances alongside curated programming designed to foster deeper engagement. Artist panels, fan activations, hosted dinners, and interactive sessions will sit alongside mental health and wellness initiatives, reinforcing the brand’s ongoing emphasis on meaningful connection. The goal is to blur the line between artist and audience, creating an environment where participation and shared experience take priority over passive viewing.
The vision is led by Managing Director John Porrata, also known as Skeeter, with support from Jason Beukema, Founder and CEO of Whet Travel. Together, they bring decades of experience in building fan-first environments rooted in culture, community, and emotional resonance.
Further strengthening the concept, Shattered Shores will collaborate with Idobi Summer School Festival and So What? Music Festival to deliver hosted onboard experiences. The partnership brings in key figures from across the alternative and emo music space, including Kevin Lyman (founder of Warped Tour), Eric Tobin (co-founder of Hopeless Records), Michael Kaminsky (founder of KMGMT), and Mike Ziemer, founder of So What? Music Festival.
True to Whet Travel’s philosophy, attendees are not simply ticket holders—they are Captains, active participants in shaping the experience. This sense of shared ownership is woven into every aspect of the sailing, from programming to atmosphere.
With more details—including lineup and full onboard programming—set to be revealed in the coming months, Shattered Shores signals the next chapter in Whet Travel’s evolution, continuing its mission to redefine what a music experience at sea can be.
