R&Rchives presents Thin Skin Diver, a new compilation from 1990s cult heroes Sukpatch, featuring a curated selection of previously unheard and unearthed material, remastered for modern listeners. The release follows singles “Bucked Hide”, “Florida Orange”, and “Mexico City Big Vacation”, and is now available on all platforms via R&Rchives.

The 19-track compilation marks the first full-length release from R&Rchives, the archival label from R&R Records, home to artists including Dijon, Mk.gee, Shlohmo, Racing Mount Pleasant, and cktrl. Several tracks, including “Florida Orange” and “Bucked Hide”, originally appeared on Sukpatch’s 1996 debut album Haulin’ Grass Smokin’ Ass, released via Seattle’s Slabco Records, showcasing the band’s evolution from DIY indie rock tape recordings to a polished electronic and sample-based sound.

Formed in 1991 in Minneapolis, Sukpatch—comprising Chris Heidman, Steve Cruze, and Steve Hermann—blended Pacific Northwest indie rock influences with early ’90s hip-hop, laying the foundation for what would become hip-hop-infused bedroom pop. Their early work, including the 1993 cult classic Lite Hits, utilized reel-to-reel tape loops and layered breakbeats, often incorporating snippets from public-access television, creating a uniquely textured LoFi sound.

Following a series of 7-inch singles on Slabco, Motorway, and Sub Pop, the trio released their critically acclaimed full-length Haulin’ Grass Smokin’ Ass in 1996. They later signed with the Beastie BoysGrand Royal label, releasing the EP Tie Down That Shiny Wave in 1999 and the album Naturalizms in 2001. After a period of inactivity, the band reunited briefly in 2006 for their final album Twenty-Three on Moshi Moshi Records.

Thin Skin Diver revisits the mid-’90s sessions that defined Sukpatch’s pioneering sound, offering a fresh perspective on music that was well ahead of its time. The compilation stands as both a celebration of the band’s legacy and a bridge connecting past innovation with present-day listeners.

Thin Skin Diver by Sukpatch is available now on all platforms via R&Rchives.
