Debuting last week on SiriusXM’s BPM channel (ch. 51) was “Pitch Control: Powered by Beatport“, a collaboration between Beatport and SiriusXM. This weekly show brings you the best underground music from around the world and will be hosted by the 20-year KIIS FM veteran Andrew Ortiz, better known as DJ Drew.
DJ Drew is a Los Angeles local whose passion for mixing started at a young age. As a teenager, he would experiment with friends’ mixing equipment and found himself constantly drawn to the DJ booth at parties. Ortiz explained the moment he knew he wanted to become a DJ was “when I saw how the DJs were able to control the crowd, and the effect they were having on people, that’s what got me.” When he entered college he purchased his first set of equipment and dedicated his summer to practicing mixing 8 hours per day.
During his senior year in 2000, DJ Drew became an intern at KIIS FM. After being hired in the programming department, a few years later he transitioned into being a fulltime DJ for the radio station and has been there ever since. Outside of radio, DJ Drew has had the opportunity to open for musical greats Diddy, Mariah Carey, and Justin Timberlake. He’s also deejayed for various celebrities like Ryan Seacrest, Lady Gaga, and Jack Nicholson and has spun at events for renowned corporations like Playboy and Maxim.
With two decades of experience, Ortiz credits his continued tenure with the ability to remain versatile and open-minded in the music industry. He understands the importance of maintaining a music selection that evolves and remains reflective of the generations that listen to him. Make sure to check out Pitch Control and the curative music of DJ Drew every Sunday at 11 PM EST!
