With Movement 2020 rapidly approaching, I find myself revisiting the lineup over and over, making lists of who I want to see, and getting more and more excited at the prospect of attending one of my Top five festivals of all time. There are so many gems on this lineup. So to share my enthusiasm, take a look at the Top 5 Acts I can’t wait to see at Movement 2020!
The Favorite Label Act: Ardalan
When the full lineup for Movement 2020 was finally released, I was pumped to see a multitude of incredible acts from my favorite Dirtybird Label! From founders Claude Vonstroke and Justin Martin to all-star acts like Walker & Royce and VNSSA, there are countless examples of that bass-heavy Dirtybird sound that I’ll be visiting. But the one I’m the most excited for is Ardalan, one of the fastest rising stars of the label. One of my favorite releases from 2019 was his track “I Can’t Wait”, a song that combines a haunting melody and dirty bassline to create a track that I can’t wait to hear live.
The Act I’ll Share with my Best Friend: Boris Brejcha
I consider myself lucky that my best friend is joining me for this Techno adventure into the states. It seems perfect to share another international festival together, considering that she and I met at Creamfields, a legendary four-day festival in the UK. Ever since I met her, she’s gushed to me about Boris Brejcha, a minimalist-Techno legend clad in a mysterious Venetian joker mask. After all the sets she’s played for me, I completely share her enthusiasm for the German DJ, and can’t wait to see what he does live.
The Act I’ve Wanted to See Forever: Nina Kraviz
An absolute powerhouse in the Techno genre, Nina Kraviz will be gracing the stages of Movement 2020 with her deep, dark, and highly refined techno sound. I have missed the opportunity to see Nina Kraviz FOUR TIMES, and have only barely staved off my FOMO by listening to and watching videos of her sets, so you’d better believe I’m going to her stage early and staying there until my feet hurt from dancing.
The Act I’ll Dance All Night to: The Black Madonna
Everyone has a handful of artists that they would drop everything to see. At the top of that list for me is The Black Madonna, one of the most eclectic and skilled DJ’s I have ever seen before. Her talent spinning tracks is multifaceted, as she encompasses a broad range of genres within a single set, keeping the energy peaking the entire time. I’ve seen The Black Madonna at two festivals, and both times her set was my favorite of the entire festival. Will she become my favorite set of Movement 2020? Stay tuned (but it’s likely).
The Legendary Act: Carl Craig
This artist needs no introduction, but I’ll give you one anyway. Carl Craig, Detroit native, and Techno pioneer will once again be playing a set at the very festival he helped create twenty years ago. He was one of the leaders behind second-wave Techno and has become a figurehead for the genre itself. It’s kind of awe-inspiring to think that I’ll be able to enjoy the creative labors of Carl Craig. Not only the set he’ll spin, but fully experiencing the entire festival itself, all born from his own desire to see Techno fully celebrated in its birthplace.
There are so many more acts I’m excited to see, but these artists are at the top of my list! Check out the Movement 2020 lineup below and grab your tickets for Techno Christmas today!
