Sage Charmaine Throws Down | #WCW

17-year-old multi-talented artist Sage Charmaine is making waves in the music industry. With her most recent release of her debut EP Don’t Leave me (songs co-written and produced by Rocky Lynch), her edgy and fresh sound distinguish her from the crowd. No stranger to the entertainment industry, Charmaine has stared in national commercials, web series, virtual reality games, Nickelodeon, Community and just finished a tour with Hey Violet this past summer. Acknowledging that her experiences in acting has helped her understand different perspectives, one can’t help seeing that she puts some of those experiences in the songs she creates. If relating to the masses is an important factor to success in the music industry, then Charmaine has managed to capture that element in the music and lyrics she chooses. Especially as her song topics are relevant to our modern age, while not entirely unrelatable to other generations. We can all relate to lyrics “never try and kiss me again” in “don’t bother me.” Perhaps one of the most interesting parts of this album is the dichotomies of relationships Charmaine addresses as she goes from songs “don’t bother me” to “don’t leave me.”

If relationships are going to be discussed in an age where honesty and disclosure are on the table, Charmaine takes it to another level by introducing us to the celebratory title of “happy birthday” only to surprise us with the sad reality of a not so happy day after all. In “hurts a little less,” Charmaine takes us down the healing road of getting over a lost love but points out that there is “pain in your name” with an upbeat tempo that harbors a bit of uncertainty, as we all rationalize that we are fine and have gotten over this heartbreak.

These direct and meaningful songs that stick with you are a signature of the young artist who has shown us that she knows how to write and perform music we can all understand and find importance in. In her edgy single “around” (with Lil Aaron), she addresses day to day struggles of acceptance in her progressive rap style adding another fanciful talent to her already long list of accomplishments. A masterful storyteller, Charmaine throws down and sets the record straight with her aggressive, hard-hitting style and I can’t wait to see what this young woman will come up with next.
