August 26th, 2023 is a joint effort that is honoring International Overdose Awareness Day (#IODAD), held worldwide since 2001. #IODAD is an annual campaign that started in Australia to end the opioid epidemic. It is a time to remember those who have needlessly died, and to acknowledge the grief of their family and friends they left behind. Their message is that “the tragedy of an overdose death is preventable.”
Overdose Lifeline, Inc (#ODL), has an objective to increase access to preventative treatment, education services, removing the stigma of addiction, provide support and give proper care to those at risk. #ODL recognizes that hosting or attending #IODAD events are a powerful way to join globally. This ensures those whom benefit the most, are able without fear or judgement.
#ODL will be on site the 26th, to offer training regarding how to recognize the signs of overdose, what to do if you suspect an overdose, what #Naloxone is, how it works, and to distribute overdose reversal kits! We will donate a portion of the door to #ODL and their work. Our partnership will make these valuable and (often times), life saving resources accessible.
“House of Wax” on the 26th leads up to Indiana Overdose Awareness Day on Sunday the 27th. It is sponsored by Overdose Lifeline, Inc. #ODL has held an #IODAD since 2014. #ODL this year, honors / recognizes lives lost with a photo display and a candlelight vigil. This celebration of loved ones, starts off with a light meal and offers a time to show support for each other. Space is limited for Sunday’s event. Please RSVP by emailing: [email protected]
“House of Wax” will bring together Artists, staff and attendees from several metropolises that are impacted by the opioid epidemic like; Indianapolis, Indiana, Portland, Oregon, Louisville, Kentucky, Cincinnati, Ohio, Dayton, Ohio, Chicago, Illinois and many more. We recognize that the Entertainment Industry also has a huge influence on the way people view substance use, partake in risky behavior and can have influence by inviting harm reduction based advocacy groups such as #ODL and Dancesafe to events, festivals, clubs, and bars.
Additionally, Trinidad Traxx is an LGBTQIA+ owned company. That community already faces additional hurdles when seeking access to healthcare let alone substance use treatment. Our hope, is that by bringing together those that have barriers be it poverty, age, education, location, race, sex, or sexual orientation . . . if it is uninsured or underinsured, you can still have those resources within reach . . . even if that reach, is your friend’s pocket. You never know who’s life you may save, it could be your own. #EndTheStigma
Trinidad Traxx has also partnered with media outlets such as; Graveyard Radio, Aggressively Positive Media For the Love of Music, Fresh Music Freaks and a few others to cover #IODAD, #ODL, “House ofWax” and Indiana Overdose Awareness Day. Special thanks to all those behind the scenes making magic happen.
