Get Lost in elrow’s Enchanted Forest | Wynn Residency Begins EDC Week 2019

As I prepare myself for my first time experiencing the wonder of the elrow party at their brand new residency at the Wynn, the little historian in me had to find out who they are. Who are these people that create an art, theater, and music-focused spectacle that sells out before the artists are even announced?!? How can they do that? My curiosity was piqued!

The elrow party has its roots all the way back in the 1800’s when Jose Satorres, who went by Josepet, decided to become a cabaret owner over following in the family’s footsteps as a farmer. He had a bit of a gambling problem, losing and then winning back the Menorcas Estate in a card game; the land where the famous Monegros Party would occur 100 years later. Though his son didn’t follow in his footsteps, his grand-daughter Maria did and her husband Antonio, a hosteler, continued the tradition by opening Theatre Victoria, whose variety shows were considered risqué and revolutionary at the time. Adding a silent movie cinema, Antonio had created the first all-in-one hot spot for entertainment in the province.

Fast-forward to the ’70s when DJs had taken over live bands and the family created the Florida Discotheque Fraga that attracted partygoers from many miles around. By 1993, the family moved the party back to Monegros and the festival went through several names, growing from 200 friends to 40,000 people in 2014. The family moved their shows to Madrid and Barcelona, eventually landing an agreement in 2012 to throw a party at Privilege in Ibiza. By 2014 they’d been hired to bring their spectacle to Space Ibiza. Through five years of growth, elrow landed appearances at Glastonbury and Tomorrowland in 2017. However, 2018 was their biggest year to date. The elrow family threw 130 shows in 33 countries, 65 cities, and 5 continents.

Since elrow arrived in New York City, I have been attached to their parties.  I remember my first club night for elrow in 2016 at Flash Factory in Manhattan.  Since elrow has a theme for every party they throw, my first elrow experience was called “Psychedelic Trip”.  They created a spectacle of fantasy with streamers, colors of every hue, and imaginary creatures and characters walking around.  It was the first time I would enter a party and see an 8-foot camel interacting with part goers. After that night at Flash Factory I told myself I would never miss elrow when they were in town.

When they announced their New York residency at the Brooklyn Mirage, I was ecstatic knowing I would be able to frequently see elrow in my hometown. Where most parties are lineup-focused, the best part of elrow was the experience itself. You could say I’m a big fan as I made sure I didn’t miss elrow in 2018 during Miami Music Week. I love walking into their parties and feel the excitement of everyone around me, not to mention the tons of confetti flying over the crowd.  I made the last minute decision to attend EDC Las Vegas which means I get the chance to party with elrow at the beginning of their Wynn Residency. Different party, different environment, same elrow. Instead of going crazy in a dark night club, I will get to see the madness at a pool party in Vegas.

With a new residency at the Encore pool in Las Vegas, I expect elrow’s party to be even more intense since Vegas is known for being over the top.  A major advantage of a residency is being able to set up their unique decor each time with fewer logistical issues than their usual one-stop events which allow their artistic displays of wonder to be even more fantastical, whimsical, and just plain big. Most of all I can’t wait to experience elrow in a sunny pool club.

Featuring top-shelf world-class DJs Fisher and Patrick Topping,  we’ll all have the chance to immerse ourselves in their surreal Enchanted Forest side by side with exotic creatures, dark beasts, and demons who live in the shadowlands.  In fact, a little birdy told me there will be roaming unicornsElrow gatherings are spectacles, multisensory bacchanals, and creative innovations that transcend theatre, music, art, sight, sound and social barriers, where every guest feels privileged.  It is a fully immersive experience that creates an unforgettable circus-like environment where attendees can choose their own adventures.

We at Fresh Music Freaks are beyond excited to see what elrow has planned for Saturday, May 19th when their year-long residency kicks off at Wynn Las Vegas.  While other events, festivals, and brands rely on big name talent to sell out their events, elrow sells out continuously based on the brand name itself, before any talent is ever announced for each event. With over a century of experience throwing epic parties, I’m preparing myself for a real treat at the Wynn Encore pool party Sunday, May 19th at 11AM!
