Zimbabwean Afro House trailblazer NiteFreak continues to push African electronic music onto the global stage with his latest single, “Negra Soy,” a collaboration with Zapapaya and La Negra Hawkins released August 21 via Afroholic Records. Built around commanding vocals, rolling Afro House rhythms and futuristic production, the track reflects the evolving sound that has made NiteFreak one of the prominent voices in the global Afro House and Afro Progressive House movement.
“Negra Soy” wastes little time establishing its presence. An anthemic vocal immediately cuts through the production before settling into an upbeat groove driven by a booming bassline and futuristic synth work. Rather than relying on a static arrangement, NiteFreak continually shifts the track’s core elements, pulling sounds in and out of focus and creating moments of space before allowing the groove to return.
That movement gives the three-and-a-half-minute track a sense of progression without sacrificing its dancefloor foundation. The arrangement leaves room for the vocals to breathe while gradually layering and stripping back its rhythmic and melodic elements, creating the kind of forward momentum that fits naturally within the modern Afro House landscape.
For NiteFreak, the release adds another chapter to a career that began in 2009. The self-taught DJ and producer has steadily built an international profile through a series of releases and collaborations that have connected his sound with audiences around the world.
His breakthrough came with a remix of Magic System’s “Premier Gaou,” created alongside Francis Mercier. The release eventually earned Gold certification in France, helping establish NiteFreak as an artist capable of bringing African-inspired electronic sounds to a much wider audience.
Since then, his collaborative résumé has continued to grow, with work alongside Francis Mercier, Black Coffee, RÜFÜS DU SOL, BLOND:ISH and Grammy-nominated duo Amadou & Mariam. His music has appeared on influential labels including Spinnin’ Deep, Higher Ground and Deep Root Records, while earning support from artists such as Black Coffee, Diplo, Keinemusik, Bedouin, Solomun, Vintage Culture, Pete Tong, Gorgon City and Nora En Pure.
That momentum has also translated into millions of streams, Top 5 Beatport placements, editorial support from Spotify and Apple Music, and radio play from BBC Radio 1. Across those releases and collaborations, NiteFreak has continued to explore the space between African musical identity and the global language of electronic dance music.

The next chapter of that mission arrives in Amsterdam this October. On Friday, October 23, NiteFreak will headline Amajoyo presents Afroholic ADE at Soulkitchen Amsterdam as part of Amsterdam Dance Event’s 30th anniversary celebrations.
Running from 23:30 to 05:00, the event will bring Afroholic Records together with Amajoyo, the Afro House, Afro Tech and Melodic House events brand and record label founded by Dutch DJ and producer De La Noise. The lineup will also feature Wilson Kentura, Thami The Unknown, Elson Soares, Randoree and Marinus.
Taking place at Soulkitchen Amsterdam, the showcase is positioned as a meeting point between African and European electronic music, bringing together artists and audiences around the sounds and culture driving the rapidly expanding Afro electronic movement.
With “Negra Soy” now adding another powerful record to his catalog, NiteFreak continues to build on the foundation that has taken him from self-taught producer to internationally recognized Afro House artist and label founder. The track’s combination of commanding vocals, evolving rhythms and detailed electronic production offers another glimpse into where his sound is heading next.
