KIMONOS and Amour Propre are joining forces for a new two-track release on Max Styler’s Nu Moda, marking the debut of both duos on the label with “The City / All I Want.” Bringing together their different approaches to electronic music, the release moves between dark tech house, indie dance, and more melodic territory while highlighting the chemistry that developed between the two acts.
The release opens with “The City,” a hard-edged club track built for late-night dancefloors. A gritty rap vocal provides the record’s attitude, while sharp percussion and aggressive buzzsaw rolls keep the production in constant motion. Rave stabs, murky arpeggios, gritty hoover fills, and chopped vocals add further layers to the arrangement, giving the track a tense and energetic character. While its roots can be heard in indie dance, its driving rhythm and punchy production keep it firmly connected to the modern tech house sound.
Where “The City” leans into intensity, “All I Want” reveals a more melodic side of the collaboration. The second track gives KIMONOS and Amour Propre room to explore their shared appreciation for emotion and melody, creating a natural contrast within the two-track release. Together, the songs show how two different production styles can complement one another without losing their individual identities.
The collaboration itself began away from the studio. After connecting online, the two duos began exchanging demos before their musical relationship eventually developed into a collaborative studio process. That gradual evolution is reflected across the release, with “The City / All I Want” serving as the result of an ongoing musical connection rather than a one-off meeting.
Based in Miami, KIMONOS—Gabriel Falanga and Omri Malka—have steadily built an international profile with a sound that moves between melodic and groove-focused house and darker club productions. Their influences span melodic techno and indie dance, giving the duo flexibility across different sides of the electronic spectrum. Their 2019 breakout single “En Su Lugar” has surpassed 62 million streams, while subsequent releases have included collaborations with Ugo Banchi, Josh Gigante, and Sounds of Ritual. The duo have also delivered remixes for Samson, The Archer, and RÜFÜS DU SOL. Their upcoming schedule includes a headline performance at Members LA and a show in Tokyo.
For Amour Propre, the release adds another chapter to a growing catalog shaped by French Touch, indie dance, and tech house. The French duo of Sami Benjelloun and Clément Guigou have released music through Rose Avenue, RÜFÜS DU SOL’s label, as well as Diynamic, Abracadabra, Warner UK, and Universal. Their music has received repeat support from BBC Radio 1 and backing from artists including Adriatique, Swedish House Mafia, Innellea, Black Coffee, Nora En Pure, Eli & Fur, Damian Lazarus, Cassian, Massano, and WhoMadeWho.
The release also arrives alongside a major milestone for Amour Propre, who are heading out on their debut U.S. tour. The run includes three performances at Burning Man, along with stops in Los Angeles, Miami, and San Francisco.
For both duos, “The City / All I Want” represents more than a label debut. It brings together two acts that discovered a natural musical connection online and turned that relationship into something tangible in the studio. The result is a release that moves from the darker side of the club to a more melodic space while allowing both KIMONOS and Amour Propre to bring their own identities to the collaboration.
