With the Monstercat vs. NCS showdown coming to an end, this week’s theme, “Tag Team/Mega Collab,” brings Monstercat’s Simulcats together with NCS’ own staff for a clash of releases packed with nostalgia, distinctive sounds, and callbacks to the music and culture that helped define both labels, dropping tomorrow, September 9.
Stepping up for this week’s showdown, Monstercat comes full circle with Simulcats, a collective team of 18 writers from across the Monstercat community, joining forces to create the massive, fully original release “Interconnected.” Built around an uplifting house sound infused with the label’s signature sounds, the track strikes a nostalgic chord with familiar sounds and references that longtime fans will recognize.
Born from the label’s previous Mix Content seasons, Simulcats brings together live DJs, current and former Monstercat artists, and non-producers from around the world to channel their shared passion for the label into one ambitious production. Together, the collective transforms that shared history into a celebration of the music, community, and 15-year legacy that brought them together.
Meanwhile, NCS assembles its own team of staff members for the massive collaboration “Soundtracking the Internet,” a nostalgic, house-driven anthem that takes listeners on a journey through the label’s evolution. Crafted entirely by the NCS team, the track cleverly interpolates more than 60 NCS records spanning multiple genres, bringing together the sounds and styles that have defined the label throughout its journey.
The release is a celebration of everything NCS has come to represent, blending music, gaming, and internet culture into one ambitious collaboration that pays tribute to the community and sound that helped establish NCS as a defining force in the digital music landscape.
