Darla Dean Lewis is back with “Man Enough,” a new single from the Los Angeles-raised, New York City-based artist’s forthcoming debut EP, We’re Gonna Fly. The five-track project is due September 25 via Cascine and follows the previously released “1979.”

Lewis brings a distinctly youthful perspective to her songwriting, finding what she describes as an innate sense of girlhood within her music.

“They’re made up of everything you find at the bottom of your purse: loose change, lip gloss, gum wrappers, empty vapes…”

On the anthemic, disco-coded “Man Enough,” Lewis sings with a half-twang that sits somewhere between youthful independence and the increasingly dull finality of adulthood. The track’s dancefloor-ready energy gives way at the bridge before she accepts the reality of where she finds herself: “I’m your woman in my pearly whites / But am I man enough, baby.”

The single also arrives alongside a music video featuring Darla Dean Lewis changing a flat tire on the side of the road, adding another playful visual layer to the song’s exploration of independence and adulthood.

We’re Gonna Fly is a five-track project that fuses dynamic, diaristic lyricism with dancefloor sensibilities and a maximalist pop vision. Across the EP, Lewis finds a sense of childlike wonder while pairing some of her sharpest phrases with clever tonal shifts.

The result is an irresistibly playful, nostalgic, and sparkling collection that moves between the absurd and the sentimental. While Lewis writes from an earnest and carefree mindset, repeated listens reveal an underlying tinge of longing. In Darla Dean Lewis’s world, everything is given a taste of make-believe.

With “Man Enough” offering another glimpse into that world, We’re Gonna Fly is shaping up to introduce an artist who embraces pop’s playful possibilities while leaving plenty of room for more complicated emotions underneath.
