After more than a decade building a career as Spag Heddy, Mischa Reining is opening the next chapter of his project by giving something back to the community that helped shape his journey. Now performing as SPAG, the bass music veteran will release SPAG PACK 001 on September 2 via SoundCloud, offering six unofficial remixes and bootlegs to fans completely free of charge.
The concept behind the pack is deeply connected to how SPAG built his reputation in the first place. Long before the new name and stripped-back visual identity, flips and remixes were an essential part of his creative process — taking records he admired and rebuilding them into something distinctly his own. With SPAG PACK 001, that same instinct comes full circle, this time with the finished tracks handed directly back to the fans.

The release arrives during a defining year for SPAG, following his decision to retire the Spag Heddy name earlier in 2026. The transition began with “Messiah” in March before continuing with the THIS IS: SPAG EP in May.
Rather than completely reinventing the artist, the rebrand strips away the more playful and colorful elements associated with Spag Heddy and puts the focus on the core of Mischa Reining’s sound. SPAG operates in a darker, heavier space built around grit, distortion and raw energy, while the visual identity follows the same philosophy through black, white and flashes of red.
Cutout collage and mixed-media artwork draw from punk and skate culture, replacing the cartoon-driven aesthetic of the past with something more tactile, imperfect and deliberately understated. After 15 years in the game, the transformation feels less like a departure than a distillation of everything that came before it.
That history runs deep. Since 2011, Mischa Reining has developed a global reputation for boundary-pushing bass music, relentless touring and a catalog that has earned support from artists including Skrillex, Excision, Subtronics and NGHTMRE. His official remix credits also include work for The Chainsmokers, Krewella and SLANDER.
Under the Spag Heddy banner, he built a distinct lane within the modern bass scene, combining hard-hitting production with melodic instincts and a willingness to push his sound beyond straightforward genre boundaries. His career has included sold-out headline tours and major support runs alongside Zomboy, Flux Pavilion, Excision and Zeds Dead, helping establish him as a recognizable force within the global dubstep community.
Now, SPAG PACK 001 connects that history directly to the project’s next phase. The six-track collection isn’t positioned as a traditional commercial release, but as an offering to the listeners who have followed SPAG through the different eras of his career.
For an artist whose journey was shaped in part by the culture of flipping and reworking records, giving those tracks away feels like a fitting way to begin the next chapter. SPAG may be a darker and more focused evolution of the project, but the relationship between artist, music and community remains at its center.
