Bassvictim are turning up the distortion with their latest single, “Jagódki (Blueberries),” a chaotic collision of blown-out bass, feverish vocals, and warped pop instincts that further cements the duo’s refusal to fit neatly into any one electronic genre.
Built around crushing low-end and deliberately unruly production, “Jagódki (Blueberries)” finds vocalist and songwriter Maria Manow and producer Ike Clateman embracing the tension between abrasive club music and strangely addictive pop sensibilities. The result is a track that feels equally suited to a sweaty underground dancefloor and a fever dream.
The single arrives with a self-directed music video from Ike Clateman, which takes the track’s confrontational energy into the boxing ring. Two fighters face off as the visual shifts between the physical intensity of their battle and surreal imagery, gradually transforming the opponent into something far more elusive. The result mirrors Bassvictim’s music: familiar enough to recognize, but increasingly difficult to pin down.
That unpredictability has become central to the project’s identity. Maria Manow and Ike Clateman have carved out a distinctive space at the intersection of electroclash, bass-heavy electronic music, experimental pop, and outright sonic chaos. Their willingness to push those boundaries has earned attention from Pitchfork, which described the duo as “always funnier and more creative than other modern electroclash revivalists,” while praising their “freakishly unstable songs” as “intoxicating.”
“Jagódki (Blueberries)” continues a trajectory that began with the duo’s early Basspunk releases before expanding into their debut album, Forever, and most recently their ? EP. With each release, Bassvictim have pushed further beyond the expectations established by their earliest material.
The familiar ingredients are still there—massive bass, bruising electronic production, and vocals that sound like they’re coming from somewhere just outside the edge of control—but the duo have increasingly opened their sound to ambient textures, folk-inspired melodies, and more vulnerable moments. That contrast gives their music a surprising emotional depth beneath all the distortion.
Now, Bassvictim are preparing to bring that sound to the road with their White Flag North American Tour this fall. The headline run begins September 22 in San Diego before moving through Los Angeles, San Francisco, Seattle, Portland, Austin, Miami, Chicago, Philadelphia, and additional cities. The tour concludes October 31 at Knockdown Center in New York.
For a project built around unpredictability, the live setting feels like a natural extension of what Bassvictim do best. “Jagódki (Blueberries)” adds another volatile piece to their growing catalog, offering a glimpse at where the duo’s increasingly strange and emotionally expansive sound could go next.
