Berlin-based techno provocateur Cera Khin makes her debut on Insomniac’s MUTATE label with “I Don’t Date Humans,” the first taste of her forthcoming EP, expected later this year. Blending gothic aesthetics with punishing club energy, the track captures the Tunisian-born producer’s genre-defying approach while delivering a darker, more playful take on contemporary techno.

Born in Tunisia and based in Berlin since 2014, Cera Khin has become one of electronic music’s most unpredictable forces. Rather than operating within a single genre, she moves freely between hard techno, bounce, acid, hardgroove, schranz, gabber, psytrance, tek, and experimental sounds. Her philosophy is simple: “I play whatever the fuck I want.”

That refusal to follow genre boundaries is central to “I Don’t Date Humans.” The track opens around high-pitched, otherworldly vocal hooks that immediately establish its supernatural personality, before breakbeat percussion, deep rolling sub-bass, acidic flourishes, and punchy hollow synth stabs drive the production deeper into the dancefloor.

There is a mischievous quality beneath the track’s harder edges. Its vampiric concept gives the record a campy gothic streak, while the relentless rhythm section keeps it firmly rooted in the modern underground techno circuit. The result is a cut that feels equally at home in a dark warehouse, a peak-time festival set, or one of Khin’s notoriously intense live performances.

Beyond the booth, Khin has used her background in psychology to advocate for mental health within electronic music. Through her Technomentalhealth initiative, she works to raise awareness around touring burnout and the pressures faced by artists and industry professionals. She also operates independent underground labels LazyTapes and CK777 Recordings, with both imprints championing physical releases through tape and vinyl.

Her reputation as a formidable live performer has continued to grow through appearances on Boiler Room x Glitch Festival, which has surpassed 521,000 views, and HÖR BERLIN, which has accumulated more than 603,000 views. Her recent performances have also included Awakenings Festival 2024 and a full schranz set on the UNREAL stage at Monegros.

With “I Don’t Date Humans” now introducing her next chapter, Khin is also preparing for a busy run of performances. Upcoming dates include the MUTATE showcase at Echostage, Escape Halloween, Club Vinyl, Ministerium Club, Zorlu PSM Touche in Turkey, and BlackWorks Italy at Sound Department, among others.

For Khin, the new single is as much about having fun with her influences as it is about delivering maximum impact on the dancefloor.

“I’m excited to release my first track on Insomniac’s Mutate label. I Don’t Hate Humans is a playful track inspired by a lifelong infatuation with vampires, developed from my love of movies such as Blade. I’ve been playing it at all my recent shows, such as Unreal at Monegros or Baum Festival, and it always goes so hard! I hope you love it as much as I do.”

With its supernatural vocals, acidic flashes, heavy low end, and hard-edged percussion, “I Don’t Date Humans” offers a fitting introduction to Cera Khin’s next era. It is unapologetically strange, relentlessly physical, and rooted in the same anything-goes mentality that has made her such a distinctive presence in the global techno scene.
