For Tape B, the connection between bass music and hip-hop has always been foundational. His production draws from the dramatic synth work, heavyweight bass, and intricate sound design of the early dubstep era while incorporating the musicality and narrative instincts of hip-hop. “Signature Sound” brings those influences together with Zaytoven, whose distinctive production has helped shape the sound of Gucci Mane, Future, Migos, Young Thug, Lil Uzi Vert, and 21 Savage, among countless others.
Rather than feeling like an unlikely genre crossover, the collaboration feels like a natural meeting point between two producers whose work has consistently prioritized musical identity and innovation. Zaytoven’s unmistakable touch remains intact alongside Tape B’s heavyweight bass production, creating a record that looks backward to dubstep’s formative years while pushing its sound into a modern context.
The collaboration also represents an important continuation of Tape B’s longstanding relationship with hip-hop. Over the past several years, the producer has earned a devoted following through widely celebrated unofficial remixes of artists who helped define his musical upbringing. His catalog includes reworks of Mac Miller’s “Loud,” which has surpassed 2.1 million streams, Flatbush Zombies’ “222” with more than 1.2 million streams, and A$AP Rocky’s “Goldie,” also exceeding 1.2 million streams.
Those edits have become staples of Tape B’s consistently sold-out live performances, eventually leading to his first official hip-hop collaboration: “Trippy Land” with Juicy J in 2024. The track has since surpassed four million streams across platforms.
Working with Zaytoven, one of modern hip-hop’s most influential producers, takes that journey another step forward. The track opens with a playful introduction from Zaytoven before dropping into heavyweight bass, dynamic sound design, and the unmistakable production style that has become Tape B’s calling card. The result preserves the rhythmic feel and musicality associated with Zaytoven while giving the track the physical impact of contemporary bass music.
For Tape B, the track was directly inspired by the sound of early dubstep and a classic production tutorial from the genre’s formative years.
“This song was originally inspired by the famous UKF dubstep tutorial, and I’ve drawn a lot of inspiration from that era for this song. I want the entire vibe of it to feel like something that came from the 2010-2012 era of dubstep,” Tape B explains.
The producer says the idea took shape after seeing Zaytoven discuss his production process and specifically reference the “wub” sound. That connection sparked the concept of reimagining the iconic sound of early dubstep production through a modern lens.
“When I saw a video of Zaytoven talking about his production process, I thought that him talking about the ‘wub’ sound was perfect for a revamped modern version of the UKF dubstep tutorial but in a new school way,” he continues.
After reaching out to Zaytoven’s team, the two camps quickly recognized the potential of the collaboration. “My goal is to continue bridging the gap between hip-hop and dubstep and this song is a great example of it,” says Tape B. “The song was the intro to my sets on my fall 2025 bus tour and has been a favorite in every set since.”
“Signature Sound” arrives at a pivotal moment for Tape B, following sold-out dates on his Summer Program amphitheater tour alongside Levity, collaborations with Subtronics, Zeds Dead, and GRiZ, and an upcoming nearly sold-out two-night headline engagement at Red Rocks later this year.
As his audience continues to grow, Tape B has remained committed to building his career around community and artistic identity rather than chasing short-lived trends. His music consistently draws from the records and sounds that first inspired his relationship with electronic music, while his collaborations increasingly open the door to artists and genres beyond the traditional bass scene.
