Jai Wolf returns to Lost In Dreams with “Bad Habit,” his second release on the label and the latest preview of his forthcoming mixtape album. Created alongside SAYAK DAS, the new track pushes the Bangladeshi-born, New York-raised producer further into club territory, blending trap, Jersey club, hip-hop, and alternative influences into a gritty, high-energy production.
Known for his atmospheric fusion of dream pop and indie dance, Jai Wolf has spent his career building an electronic sound that balances emotional songwriting with expansive production. His upcoming mixtape takes that evolution in a new direction, bringing together South Asian artists from around the world for a collaborative project focused on creating forward-thinking club music across multiple genres.
“Bad Habit” is a particularly hard-edged entry in that developing catalog. Driven by confident rap verses and a gritty vocal topline, the track combines Jersey club-inspired rhythms with crowd chants, horn-led breakdowns, and heavy mid-bass drops. Creative vocal chops and carefully selected samples add another layer of texture, giving the track a restless energy that feels designed for packed dancefloors.
The single follows “Throw Ya Body,” the mixtape’s lead release, which earned coverage from major media outlets and climbed to No. 2 on Beatport’s Trap chart. Together, the tracks point toward a project that is less interested in staying inside a single genre than exploring the connections between global influences and contemporary club music.
For “Bad Habit,” Jai Wolf reconnects with SAYAK DAS, a Los Angeles-based singer-songwriter and longtime collaborator known for moving fluidly between hip-hop, rock, R&B, and pop. The pair previously worked together on “Melancholy Ave. / God Only Knows,” which appeared on Jai Wolf’s The Red Eye Home LP.
“When I first discovered Sayak Das a few years ago, I was so blown away by his raw artistry and his ability to exist across so many different genres, be it RnB, hip-hop, or rock,” says Jai Wolf. “I feel like anytime we get in the studio, we’re always challenging each other to push beyond our respective comfort zones. His verse is equally razor-sharp as the sound design, and I’m so thrilled for the world to hear this track off my upcoming mixtape.”
The release arrives as Jai Wolf prepares for another major stretch of touring. The producer will soon head across Asia with upcoming performances in Singapore, Shanghai, Guangzhou, and additional cities before launching his eight-stop “10-Year Anniversary” tour.
The anniversary run will feature support from Koastle and Conrad and visit venues including The Bellwether, Brooklyn Steel, Ogden Theater, Showbox SoDo, The Masquerade, Concord Music Hall, Regency Ballroom, and Beach House Belmont Park.
With “Bad Habit,” Jai Wolf continues expanding the sonic language of his upcoming mixtape, using his South Asian heritage and global creative network as a springboard for a more adventurous approach to electronic music. The track also reinforces his ability to move between emotive songwriting and club-driven production without losing the melodic sensibility that first defined his sound.
