Jacques Greene is returning with his most direct dancefloor statement yet. The Montreal-born producer has announced jg, a new album arriving October 16 via LUCKYME®, alongside the release of its lead single, “Presence.”
Following the previously released “What They Say,” featuring labelmate umru, and “Closer,” with DJ BORING, jg marks a deliberate shift for Greene. After years of exploring abstraction, atmosphere, and conceptual worlds, the new album embraces the physicality of the dance floor while drawing inspiration from the people, places, and relationships that have helped him find purpose during a period of personal upheaval and global uncertainty.
“This record moves away from concepts and follows an intuition for places where I wanted to be and where I would be wanted,” Jacques Greene explains.
That sense of intuition runs throughout jg. Rather than attempting to create another conceptual universe, Greene has focused on capturing a feeling — the pull toward community, movement, connection, and ultimately joy. The result is an album that reaches for hopefulness without ignoring the instability surrounding its creation.
The project follows Verses GT, Greene’s acclaimed collaboration with Nosaj Thing, which explored a hazier and more abstract side of the producer’s sound. While that record leaned into obscured drums, stuttering sequences, and atmospheric textures, jg strips away much of that abstraction to reveal what may be Greene’s clearest artistic expression yet.
The album’s guest appearances also reflect the personal relationships at its center. Rather than assembling collaborations purely for their name value, Greene has drawn from the creative community surrounding him, allowing friendships and shared experiences to shape the music.
“The track with Noah [SEES0000] is here because I love it, but also because we walked from his studio to get Sonoran tacos and talked about life,” Greene says.
It is an anecdote that captures the spirit of jg: music emerging organically from real-world connections rather than from a predetermined concept.
For more than 15 years, Jacques Greene has developed a distinctive approach to electronic music that combines sophisticated club production with an unmistakable emotional pull. After breaking through with “Another Girl,” the Montreal artist continued to refine that balance across a series of EPs, singles, and two full-length albums, 2017’s Feel Infinite and 2019’s Dawn Chorus.
His music has consistently explored the emotional possibilities of the dance floor, transforming club rhythms into something intimate and deeply human. Even at its most euphoric, Greene’s production carries a sense of vulnerability, creating music that feels designed as much for reflection as movement.
His 2025 collaboration with Nosaj Thing continued that exploration, embracing a hazy production style Greene described as “betting on headspace.” The project treated dance music almost like memory, with tumbling percussion partially obscured beneath layers of haze and fragmented electronic sequences.
Greene’s relationship with club culture extends well beyond his own catalog. Over the years, he has collaborated with artists including Bonobo on “Fold,” remixed Radiohead, produced for Jessy Lanza and Tinashe, and toured with The xx.
Now, jg brings those experiences back to the dance floor in their most direct form yet.
With “Presence” available now, Jacques Greene is opening the next chapter of his career with an album built around instinct, connection, and the simple but powerful desire to find somewhere — and someone — to belong.
