Italian producer Mazare joins forces with Scottish alternative rock outfit Newshapes for “Ego Death,” the powerful title track from his forthcoming Ego Death EP, arriving July 31 via Universal Music Italia. Blending soaring melodies with crushing metalcore and drum & bass, the collaboration serves as the climactic finale to Mazare’s latest project.

Over the past several years, Mazare has established himself as one of electronic music’s most exciting crossover artists, seamlessly fusing heavy rock influences with high-energy bass music. His distinctive sound has earned support from industry heavyweights including SLANDER, ILLENIUM, Seven Lions, Said The Sky, Dabin, Koven, and Don Diablo, while releases through Monstercat and Insomniac Records have helped him surpass 35 million Spotify streams.

Born and raised in northeastern Italy, Mazare’s musical foundation was shaped by his father’s record collection, introducing him to legendary bands such as Pink Floyd, U2, and Genesis before electronic music changed his life with David Guetta’s “When Love Takes Over” in 2009. Today, that diverse background continues to influence a style that effortlessly shifts between emotional electronic anthems and aggressive rock-infused productions.

For “Ego Death,” Mazare recruited Newshapes, the rising Glasgow-based post-hardcore band known for combining emotionally charged songwriting with explosive instrumentation. Frontman Ian Mann delivers an evocative vocal performance that initially floats over atmospheric synths before the track unexpectedly erupts into a thunderous collision of metalcore guitars, frenetic drum & bass rhythms, and live acoustic percussion.

Rather than following the predictable path toward a traditional EDM drop, “Ego Death” veers into a dynamic blend of electronic precision and live-band intensity, creating a sound that will resonate with fans of Pendulum, Bring Me The Horizon, and blink-182.

The single also serves as the emotional centerpiece of the Ego Death EP, bringing together the various influences explored throughout the project into one cohesive statement.

“I was looking for the perfect conclusion for this EP—something that would sum up all the sounds, styles and atmospheres I went through with the whole project,” Mazare said. “That’s how Ego Death was born, a testament to breaking boundaries and going out of your comfort zone. As I was looking for the right band to bring on board, I came across Newshapes and was impressed by their sound and their range. It was an instant match, and it’s safe to say I’m beyond happy with how the song turned out—they absolutely killed it.”

The members of Newshapes echoed that enthusiasm, noting that the collaboration felt like a natural evolution of both artists’ musical identities.

“When Mazare approached us to collaborate, we instantly knew it was something we wanted to be a part of,” the band shared. “We knew Mazare had made a name for himself blending drum & bass with metal and post-hardcore influences, while we’ve always woven drum & bass and electronic elements into our own post-hardcore sound. We’re all huge fans of the genre and have even explored it in our own tracks, so this felt like the perfect opportunity to fully embrace those influences more than we ever have before. It was such a fun and rewarding collaboration, and we think the result feels like a natural and exciting meeting point between our two worlds.”

With Ego Death, Mazare continues pushing beyond the conventions of electronic music, further cementing his reputation as one of the genre’s most adventurous producers. The EP’s title track captures that fearless creative spirit, delivering an exhilarating fusion of rock and bass music that showcases both his evolving artistry and Newshapes’ rising presence within the alternative music scene.
