On November 1, Interstellar Recordings, Insomniac Records‘ hub for melodic house and techno, will welcome 8Kays—the Kyiv-based electronic producer and live act—onto their roster with the release of her new double single, Viking / Magma. Known in her homeland of Ukraine as Iryna Shvydka, 8Kays brings her unique sound design and depth to Insomniac’s imprint, marking a powerful debut with these two distinctive tracks.
The lead track, Viking, showcases her collaboration with Kyle Pearce, an Aussie-born, Germany-based multi-platinum artist recognized for his work with Vintage Culture, Tube & Berger, and Klangkarussell. Pearce’s evocative, breathy vocals provide a haunting contrast to 8Kays’ meticulously produced melodic techno backdrop, featuring cosmic atmospherics, resonant bass pulses, and galloping rhythms. The B-side, Magma, stands as a darker, more intense counterpoint—an instrumental driven by pounding drums, undulating basslines, and gritty acid accents. With its molten-like synths and deep, driving energy, Magma embodies a sonic landscape inspired by volcanic imagery.
Reflecting on her inspirations, 8Kays shares: “Viking is one of the tracks I like the most from my recent productions. It’s melodic, sensual, and powerful. And Magma is all about energy. The image of a volcano came to mind when I listened to it with my eyes closed—it just resonated.”
