Emerging genre-blending collective 2ŁØT has joined forces with GRAMMY-nominated soul artist Aloe Blacc to release their newest single, “Immortal”—a fearless meditation on mortality, fear, and the freedom that comes with embracing life’s impermanence. Inspired by the ancient concept of memento mori—Latin for “remember you must die”—the track serves not as a dirge, but a declaration: live boldly, and without fear.
Blending 2ŁØT’s philosophical songwriting and genre-defying sound with Aloe Blacc’s unmistakable voice, “Immortal” delivers a message both urgent and uplifting. “Immortal is about unlocking the part of you that’s waiting to be set free,” says Rudy Love Jr. of 2ŁØT. “It’s a reminder that fear is the biggest barrier between you and your true calling. If you knew your time was short, what would you change?”
For Aloe Blacc, the song resonates on a deeply personal level. “From a lyrical standpoint, it’s one of the strongest songs I’ve been a part of writing,” he shares. “This line—‘when I tumble over, the broken pieces fit together better in the end’—reminds me of kintsugi, the Japanese art of mending broken pottery with gold. The healed parts of us become the most beautiful.”
Earlier today, Aloe Blacc and 2ŁØT debuted “Immortal” with a live performance on KTLA in Los Angeles, delivering a stripped-back version of the single that highlighted the emotional depth and raw conviction behind its lyrics. The performance was accompanied by an interview exploring the collaboration’s origin and the message they hope to share.
“Immortal” expands on the conceptual work introduced in 2ŁØT’s debut album Entropy, a project rooted in the Second Law of Thermodynamics and the inevitability of chaos. Where Entropy sought peace within disorder, “Immortal” issues a call to action: face the unknown, and transcend it.
Since their debut, 2ŁØT has built a catalog centered on philosophical depth and personal resilience, including tracks like “Never Knew You,” “Arrow of Time” (featuring Michael Kang of The String Cheese Incident), and “Call For Me.” Their recent Entropy remix by legendary DJ Paul Oakenfold marked the group’s arrival on the global electronic scene, blending dance music with intellectual and emotional gravity.
Next month, 2ŁØT and Aloe Blacc will reunite to perform “Immortal” live at Somewhere Festival & Conference in Wichita, Kansas, taking place June 13–14. The socially driven event features a wide-ranging lineup including Deadmau5, Flying Lotus, and Suki Waterhouse, alongside tech activations, immersive art, and a robust conference designed to support creatives and build community.
For 2ŁØT, performing at Somewhere is more than a gig—it’s a shared mission. The festival partners with nonprofit organizations such as The Phoenix, 1 Million Strong, and Create Campaign to create real-world opportunities for change.
“It’s about giving artists the space to create, but also the tools to build sustainable careers,” says Rudy Love Jr. “The knowledge to make an impact, and the community to support them along the way.”
