DJ and Producer Kilimanjaro Reworks Mia Moretti’s “Piano De La Selva”

Moretti’s third single, “Piano de la Selva,” a tribute to “The Queen of Bullerengue” Petrona Martinez, is remixed by DJ/producer Kilimanjaro.

Born in the UK with Zambian heritage, Kilimanjaro combines his background of Afro-centric influences with the fast-paced energies of the Western electronic world, proving to be the perfect match for this remix that bridges musical traditions from different corners of the world and hits hard on the floor.

Traditional Bullerengue rhythms — organic percussions, lively vocals chants, and hypnotic melodies — which Moretti was drawn to in her production, meet a new electronic element fueled by Afro-house beats characteristic of the style Kilimanjaro has quickly built a name on. This production complements the original track’s cultural richness while infusing it with even more energy and dancefloor appeal well beyond any remix we have seen of late. When this remix drops, you won’t find an inch of the room that’s not moving.

Folklore from several African tribes believe an ancient goddess named Marimba (“the mother of song”) invented the instrument also known as the Piano de la Selva, or the Piano of the Jungle.

“Piano de la Selva” features a sample of Martinez’s song “Bobby” from her album Ancestras, which won her a Latin Grammy in 2021 at the age of 82. Petrona Martinez appears on “Piano de la Selva” (2023) courtesy of Chaco World Music.
