After a year defined by creative freedom, surprise releases, and a triumphant return to the stage, GRiZ is officially entering a new era. The beloved producer, saxophonist, and bass music innovator has announced his highly anticipated new album, Future Funk Volume 1, arriving June 5, 2026.
Serving as both a celebration of his roots and a bold step forward, the album captures the full spectrum of GRiZ’s evolving artistic identity. Blending soulful funk, explosive bass music, psychedelic experimentation, hip-hop influences, and moments of emotional catharsis, Future Funk Volume 1 stands as his most expansive and fully realized project to date.
Leading the rollout is “Rump Shaker,” a long-awaited reunion with fellow funk-fueled electronic powerhouse Big Gigantic. More than a decade after releasing the fan-favorite anthem “Good Times Roll,” the two artists reconnect for a collaboration that honors their shared history while pushing their sound into new territory.
Some combinations simply make sense: peanut butter and jelly, saxophone and bass, GRiZ and Big Gigantic.
Driven by explosive brass arrangements, groove-heavy rhythms, and festival-ready energy, “Rump Shaker” immediately sets the tone for the album. The track embodies the spirit of Future Funk Volume 1—a project built around movement, spontaneity, and human connection.
Throughout the album, GRiZ embraces the core elements that have defined his music for more than a decade. His signature saxophone melodies, uplifting energy, immersive sound design, and hip-hop-inspired sensibilities remain front and center. At the same time, he pushes deeper into heavier bass music, psychedelic textures, and a freer, less restrictive creative process that allows genres and emotions to collide organically.
The announcement follows one of the most prolific periods of GRiZ’s career. Over the past year alone, he released 38 tracks, including the surprise GEMiNI EP, Sidequest Vol. 1 Mixtape, and collaborations with Wooli, Flowdan, Tape B, Gryffin, Levity, and more. Rather than separating styles into distinct categories, Future Funk Volume 1 embraces contrast, allowing funk grooves, cinematic tension, emotional storytelling, and bass-fueled chaos to coexist within a unified creative vision.
At its heart, the album reflects a renewed commitment to intuition. Written during a period of artistic rediscovery, the project finds GRiZ trusting instinct over expectation and allowing inspiration to guide every creative decision. The result feels spontaneous yet purposeful, capturing the energy of an artist reconnecting with the reasons he began making music in the first place.
The album also arrives during one of the biggest live-performance chapters of GRiZ’s career. Since returning in 2025, he has quickly reestablished himself as one of electronic music’s most beloved performers and community builders. His inaugural Seven Stars Festival sold out almost immediately, drawing more than 22,000 fans to Virginia for a fully immersive, artist-curated experience rooted in positivity, bass music culture, and collective connection. Now entering its second year, the festival has rapidly become one of dance music’s most talked-about destination events.
That momentum has continued with a string of major performances and cultural moments, including a surprise Do LaB appearance at Coachella, sold-out arena shows in Chicago and the Bay Area, GRIZTRONICS weekends alongside Subtronics at The Gorge, and upcoming headline performances at Bonnaroo, Electric Forest, Elements, and beyond.
Across Future Funk Volume 1, GRiZ reinforces the philosophy that has always separated him from his peers: the belief that electronic music should feel deeply human. Whether through euphoric saxophone lines, crushing bass drops, psychedelic explorations, or moments of emotional vulnerability, every song prioritizes connection over convention.
For GRiZ, funk has never simply been a genre—it is a mindset. On Future Funk Volume 1, that philosophy reaches its most complete expression yet. The album feels expansive, unpredictable, emotionally resonant, and alive, less concerned with revisiting the past than building something entirely new.
As this next chapter begins, one thing is clear: GRiZ isn’t returning to where he left off. He’s creating something bigger.
