Following the launch of his newly announced creative era and forthcoming project I SAW A TRAP DJ AND IT CHANGED MY BIO CHEMISTRY, genre-defining Australian producer and trap pioneer What So Not officially releases “EVEREST” featuring Alina Pash this Friday, May 29.
Featuring returning collaborator Alina Pash, “EVEREST” continues the creative chemistry first introduced on “Tragic” from What So Not and Buunshin’s 2025 collaborative EP The Quiet That Hurts. While their previous release explored vulnerable storytelling through cinematic drum & bass and experimental songwriting, “EVEREST” pushes into a more explosive and sonically charged direction, blending tension-heavy production, massive sound design, and flashes of the euphoric melodic energy that originally helped define What So Not’s rise.
Lyrically, “EVEREST” balances intensity with themes of healing, transcendence, and human connection. Anchored by Alina Pash’s ethereal vocal performance, the track merges cinematic scale with emotionally grounded songwriting, exploring rebirth and the search for light amid chaos.
The single also serves as the first major sonic statement from I SAW A TRAP DJ AND IT CHANGED MY BIO CHEMISTRY, introducing the themes driving this new chapter for What So Not: artistic rediscovery, forward-thinking collaboration, and a return to the unpredictability and atmosphere that once defined early internet-era electronic music culture.
Long regarded as one of the key architects behind the rise of cinematic trap and future bass, What So Not helped shape a sound that transformed festival culture and pushed electronic music deeper into the mainstream. With “EVEREST,” he channels that legacy into a modern framework, pulling together years of experimentation across drum & bass, analog production, cinematic songwriting, and global rhythmic influences into something that feels both nostalgic and forward-facing.
The release arrives ahead of What So Not’s upcoming I SAW A TRAP DJ AND IT CHANGED MY BIO CHEMISTRY U.S. Tour, a limited-capacity run of intimate club shows and select festival appearances across North America.
