After three years away from solo releases, Jacques Greene has officially returned with “What You Say,” a sleek and high-impact new single released through LUCKYME®. Featuring fellow label artist umru, the track signals a decisive shift back toward the dancefloor for the Montreal producer, ushering in a sharper, more club-driven era built around precision, momentum, and forward-thinking electronic production.
“What You Say” feels like a seamless collision between both artists’ sonic worlds, blending Jacques Greene’s emotionally textured approach to club music with umru’s hyper-detailed, internet-informed production sensibilities. The result is an icy, shimmering dancefloor record that balances tension and release with effortless fluidity, channeling late-night warehouse energy through glossy, futuristic sound design.
“Working with umru seems to follow a certain pattern,” said Jacques Greene. “He comes to the studio in Montreal, the track materializes out of thin air as quickly as we can keep up, and the results ignite inspiration in me for months to come. ‘What You Say’ was made in my studio last year, and it has stayed with me as a lightning bolt on my hard drive. Freshhhhh energy into 2026.”
The collaborative chemistry between the two producers is immediately apparent throughout the record. While Greene has long been recognized for fusing emotional depth with club functionality, umru brings a more chaotic and digitally fragmented edge, helping push the track into sharper and more unpredictable territory without sacrificing its dancefloor focus.
Further elevating the release is a heavyweight technical team drawn from across the UK electronic underground. The track was mixed by Pearson Sound, co-founder of Hessle Audio and a revered figure within bass and club music whose previous credits include work with Elkka and Fred again... Mastering duties were handled by dubstep pioneer Joker, known for his genre-defining sound design and collaborations with artists including Skrillex.
The release marks an important moment for Jacques Greene, whose absence from solo material over the past several years only heightened anticipation surrounding his next move. Long celebrated for bridging emotional electronic music with underground club culture, he remains one of the defining figures of the post-dubstep and melodic club movement that reshaped electronic music throughout the 2010s.
With “What You Say,” Jacques Greene sounds reenergized and fully locked back into the club space. The single captures the immediacy and spontaneity of collaborative creation while hinting at a larger sonic direction still unfolding — one rooted in late-night energy, polished experimentation, and the emotional tension that has always defined his best work.
