Following the release of defining singles “it’s time to go home,” “stranger,” and the inventive Tamia interpolation “2 u,” WHIPPED CREAM delivers her long-awaited debut album HOME WAS ALWAYS ME, out today, April 30 via Monstercat.
The Canadian producer and vocalist, born Caroline Cecil, has built a reputation for emotionally driven electronic music that merges dynamic vocal performance with textured house and techno production. Across previous projects including Careline (2025), is this real? (2024), Someone You Can Count On (2023), and Who Is Whipped Cream? (2020), she has steadily refined a sound rooted in vulnerability and atmosphere. With HOME WAS ALWAYS ME, she expands that vision into a fully realized, cinematic body of work that explores identity, connection, and emotional resilience.
At the center of the album is its focus track, “midnight moon,” a deeply personal anthem that captures the quiet ache of longing for someone once deeply intertwined in your life. Reflecting on the track, Caroline Cecil shares:
“‘midnight moon’ is one of the most personal songs I’ve ever made. It’s about someone I was deeply in love with — someone I’m probably still in love with in ways I don’t always say out loud. The song carries a soft sadness, a longing, but also this quiet magic: no matter where we are in the world, we’re all looking at the same moon. ‘midnight moon’ holds that contradiction — heartbreak and beauty living in the same breath.”
Beneath its polished surface, HOME WAS ALWAYS ME is less about strength and more about truth. Drawing inspiration from the Biblical figure Eve, WHIPPED CREAM reframes the archetype not as a symbol of wrongdoing, but as one of self-awareness and defiance—someone unwilling to betray her own identity. The album becomes a meditation on reclaiming that inner truth, particularly for those navigating growth while facing misunderstanding.
“People say ‘be yourself,’ but the moment you do, they project onto you,” she explains. “This album is about choosing yourself anyway,” further describing the project as “a modern retelling of an ancient idea that people are not defined by the stories written about them, but by the truth they choose to live.”
Sonically, the album moves fluidly between introspective moments and high-impact club energy. Tracks like “2 u” tap into a playful ’90s nostalgia, while “it’s time to go home” sets the emotional foundation for the project. Meanwhile, “stranger”—described by EDM.com as “a dark, abrasive four-on-the-floor banger”—has already made a significant impact, surpassing 2.8 million streams on Spotify, landing on Viral Top 50 charts in both the United States and Canada, and earning rotation on SiriusXM BPM, where it reached the Top 20 in April 2026.
With HOME WAS ALWAYS ME, WHIPPED CREAM steps into her debut album era with clarity and conviction, delivering a project that balances dancefloor intensity with deeply personal storytelling—solidifying her evolution as one of electronic music’s most emotionally resonant voices.
