Fresh off being featured in this year’s NME 100 list, digital hardcore duo femtanyl have released their official debut album MAN BITES DOG, out now. Spanning ten tracks, the album delivers a high-energy fusion of techno, glitch, and experimental rave, cementing the duo’s reputation for pushing boundaries over the past three years.
Drawing on influences from Dance, Footwork, and a DIY Punk ethos, MAN BITES DOG was largely created remotely between Toronto and Seattle, with members Noelle (vocals, production) and Juno (production, multi-instrumentalist) exchanging project files during what they describe as a “particularly chaotic year of one-on-one collaboration.” On the album’s creation, the duo say: “The end result is an album that stands as an unabashed love-letter to our favorite music, movies and books that we bonded over during this period; it is also a deeply frustrated reaction to the forces that pushed our collaborative process to be remote in the first place.”
The release follows lead singles “HEAD UP” and December’s “BODY THE PISTOL,” and arrives ahead of femtanyl’s 19-date U.S. tour this February and April. The duo will also make their festival debut at Primavera Sound in Barcelona this June.
Since their formation in 2023, femtanyl have garnered attention for their breakneck pace, distorted soundscapes, and chaotic energy. Their 2024 breakout project REACTOR earned critical praise from Pitchfork (6.9), while tracks like “KATAMARI” (65M+ streams), “GIRL HELL 1999” (50M+ streams), and “PUSH UR T3MPRR” (42M+ streams) helped cultivate a rabid online following. The duo have toured with Machine Girl, headlined sold-out shows, and opened for Danny Brown on his Stardust Tour following a collaboration on “1L0v3myL1f3!”
Recognized by Billboard in their Genre Now feature as one of “seven artists pushing their respective genres forward,” femtanyl now command over 4 million monthly listeners while continuing to redefine the intersection of Rave, Dance, and Punk. MAN BITES DOG solidifies their position at the forefront of digital hardcore and experimental electronic music.
