ZHU returns with “BURN,” the second single from his upcoming album BLACK MIDAS, arriving March 20. The track pairs sleek synths and a rolling bassline with a sultry R&B-leaning hook from Toronto singer/producer Joyia, blending soulful vocals with uptempo dance production.
More than a club record, “BURN” reflects a period of rebuilding. In 2025, ZHU was displaced by the Southern California Palisades wildfire, losing his land while his home and studio—though smoke-damaged—remained standing. The recovery process sparked the creative direction behind BLACK MIDAS, an album shaped by late-night narratives and a spectrum of sounds from deep house to melodic techno.
ZHU describes “BURN” as an effort to push R&B into more danceable territory, merging soulful songwriting with club energy. The album also features collaborations with underground and emerging artists.
Following renewed momentum around his breakout hit “Faded” and a run of global DJ sets—including appearances with Mathame in Bogotá and deadmau5 at Coachella—ZHU expanded his BLACKLIZT concept worldwide, playing venues from Istanbul’s VW Arena to London’s Drumsheds.
In support of BLACK MIDAS, ZHU is set to appear at Ultra Music Festival, Rabbits Eat Lettuce in Queensland, and Tomorrowland, with more dates to be announced.
