Grammy-nominated artist Aloe Blacc is marking a historic career milestone as “Wake Me Up,” the era-defining collaboration he co-wrote and famously performed with the late Avicii (Tim Bergling), has officially surpassed 3 billion streams on Spotify, reaching more than 7 billion streams across all platforms. The achievement arrives as Blacc launches the Los Angeles leg of his Wake Me Up Tour, beginning with a four-night residency at Blue Note LA following a sold-out three-night run at Blue Note New York.
Though “Wake Me Up” became a global chart-topper in over 100 countries, its origins trace back to an intimate creative session in Los Angeles between three visionary artists: Aloe Blacc, Tim Bergling, and Mike Einziger of Incubus. Drawing from his storytelling roots, Blacc penned the lyrics and developed the vocal melody, helping transform early acoustic ideas into a genre-blending anthem that continues to resonate with audiences worldwide.
Reflecting on the collaboration, Blacc describes the session as a rare moment of creative alignment, where lyrics, guitar, and production merged into something timeless. His words, paired with Einziger’s guitar work and Bergling’s groundbreaking production, gave the track its emotional depth and global reach.
Beyond the song’s commercial success, Blacc’s connection to Avicii’s legacy remains deeply personal. He continues to support the Tim Bergling Foundation and maintains a close relationship with Klas Bergling, Tim’s father. In 2019, Blacc lent his voice to “SOS,” the lead single from Avicii’s posthumous album Tim, honoring the producer’s final musical vision. More recently, he paid tribute with a performance at the sold-out Avicii Arena in Stockholm, celebrating Tim’s enduring influence on music and culture.
The Wake Me Up Tour not only revisits the global hit but also highlights Blacc’s broader catalog, including fan favorites like “The Man” and “I Need A Dollar,” while introducing audiences to the message-driven “artivism” of his 2025 album Stand Together. The tour underscores his dual role as both entertainer and advocate, using music as a vehicle for social impact.
The streaming milestone caps off a remarkable start to 2026 for Blacc, who was recently named Forbes’ first-ever Artist in Residence. Announced at the World Economic Forum in Davos, the role positions him as a cultural curator bridging creative storytelling and entrepreneurship. From leading his biotech startup Major Inc. to high-profile television appearances on Jimmy Kimmel Live! and Good Morning America, Aloe Blacc continues to demonstrate how artistry and purpose can move in harmony on a global scale.
