Two-time GRAMMY-nominated producer, artist, and Dim Mak founder Steve Aoki has unveiled a high-energy reimagining of “A Cruel Angel’s Thesis,” the legendary opening theme from the iconic anime series Neon Genesis Evangelion. Out now, the track sees Aoki join forces with Dimatik and Gammer to transform the beloved song—originally performed by Japanese singer Yōko Takahashi—into a modern, festival-ready electronic anthem.

A longtime fan of Neon Genesis Evangelion, one of the most influential anime series of all time, Aoki approaches the remake with both reverence and ambition. The new version preserves the emotional intensity and cultural legacy of the original while injecting explosive drops, hard-hitting energy, and massive global dancefloor appeal.

“The greatest anime song of all time,” said Steve Aoki. “I’m honored to officially reimagine it.”

The collaboration came together organically. “In April 2025, I spoke with Steve Aoki at Ultra Australia—he suggested we do a Neon Genesis remix. Funny enough, Gammer had actually sent me an idea shortly before this,” explained Dimatik. “Fast forward to January 2026, the track is here and officially releasing to the world.”

For Gammer, the project was just as meaningful. “Neon Genesis Evangelion has to be the world’s greatest theme song. Teamed up with Dimatik and Steve to turn it into a rager!”

The release lands as Aoki gears up for his recently announced Dim Mak 30th Anniversary Tour, a 2026 North American run celebrating three decades of his trailblazing independent label and creative universe. Phase 1 of the tour will feature Aoki headlining select dates across major markets, joined by a rotating lineup of special guests.
