NOTHING Unveils New Single “Toothless Coal” Ahead of Upcoming Album and Global Tour

Ahead of the release of their highly anticipated new album and the launch of extensive tour dates, NOTHING kicks off 2026 with “Toothless Coal,” the latest single from their forthcoming full-length A Short History of Decay, due February 27 via Run For Cover Records.

“Toothless Coal” expands on the sonic palette introduced by earlier singles “Cannibal World” and “Purple Strings.” While “Cannibal World” leaned into a baggy, Madchester-influenced groove and “Purple Strings” stripped things back with acoustic guitar and unfiltered vocals, Toothless Coal taps into a grinding, industrial edge that nods toward genre cornerstones like My Bloody Valentine. Together, the three tracks highlight the band’s ongoing commitment to bending sound, resisting categorization, and pushing beyond familiar shoegaze conventions.

Set for release next month, A Short History of Decay marks NOTHING’s fifth studio album and their most sonically expansive and emotionally direct work to date. The record unfolds as a widescreen meditation on time, truth, and physical deterioration—an unflinching reckoning with the body’s slow unraveling and the weight of memory that lingers long after moments have passed.

The album arrives alongside a newly solidified lineup that has reenergized the band creatively, featuring guitarist Doyle Martin (Cloakroom), bassist Bobb Bruno (Best Coast), drummer Zachary Jones (MSC, Manslaughter 777), and guitarist Cam Smith (Ladder To God, Cloakroom). At the center remains frontman Domenic “Nicky” Palermo, delivering some of his most direct and vulnerable songwriting yet as he confronts aging, illness, and personal history with striking clarity.

NOTHING

In support of the new release, NOTHING will embark on a run of tour dates in Japan this February, where they will share the stage with Whirr. The band will then return stateside for an extensive North American headline tour, followed by dates across the UK. Support on North American shows will come from Full Body 2, Cryogeyser, and Violent Magic Orchestra.

The touring cycle will culminate with Slide Away, the band’s own multi-date festival taking place in New York City, Chicago, and Los Angeles. Joined by influential acts such as Hum, Chapterhouse, Swirlies, and more, NOTHING will also celebrate the 10th anniversary of their seminal album Tired of Tomorrow, with special guest lineups curated for each city.

With “Toothless Coal” setting the tone, NOTHING enters 2026 poised for one of the most defining chapters of their career—bridging the past, present, and future through sound that is as confrontational as it is deeply human.
