Seven Lions Announces New Album Asleep in the Garden of Infernal Stars

Seven Lions, the producer behind Ophelia Records and one of electronic music’s most imaginative storytellers, is preparing to release his new album Asleep in the Garden of Infernal Stars on December 12, 2025. The project marks a deliberate return to the inspirations that shaped his early identity—fantasy worlds, metal aesthetics, vivid imagery, and the handcrafted approach that helped define his earliest sound.

Jeff Montalvo, better known as Seven Lions, says the album title grew directly from that pull back to his roots. He describes the name as something “mystical and visually charged,” echoing the dramatic titles of the metal tracks he grew up on. The entire record is built with that same intention—an immersive world meant to feel designed by hand, full of detail and emotional weight.

In the months leading up to the full album, Seven Lions previewed its range through three standout singles. “By the Light of the Moon” arrived in September, reuniting him with Kerli for the first time since their 2014 classic “Worlds Apart.” The track leans into dreamy, ethereal textures and that unmistakable emotional pull the pair is known for. October followed with “So Far Away” featuring Lilly Ahlberg, a melodic drum & bass piece exploring distance and longing—his first track in the genre. Most recently came “Cold as Snow” with HALIENE, a collaboration built around obscure metal influences that push him into darker, more abstract territory. With layered guitars and heavy drum work, it’s a song he considers one of the saddest he’s ever made.

The full album broadens that palette even further. It opens with the title track, a breakbeat-leaning, atmospheric introduction that sets the stage for its cinematic arc. “Breaking Me” brings a mix of emotional vocals and big-room power, while “Delusional” turns into an anthemic high point carried by No/Me’s sweeping performance. “A Crown of Seven Suns” resets the pace with a tranquil instrumental moment before the energy surges again on the drum & bass-driven “From Beyond.” “Past You” featuring Oaks adds a heartfelt meditation on moving forward, and “Thrice Woven” marks Kerli’s second appearance—this time with a more cinematic, tension-filled arc. The project closes with “Breathe It Out Slowly,” an intimate finale shaped by longtime collaborator Fiora.

At its core, the album is a personal recalibration. Seven Lions describes the creative process as a response to feeling disconnected from the current musical landscape. With so much noise, he wanted to step away and rediscover the spark that originally drove him to create. The album reflects that intentional return—every detail, from the music to the visuals, is crafted with the same care that has always defined his most meaningful work.

Seven Lions’ career has been shaped by constant reinvention. After breaking through in 2012 by winning a Beatport remix contest for Above & Beyond’s “You Got to Go,” he went on to release music with Anjunabeats, OWSLA, and Casablanca, eventually building Ophelia Records into one of melodic bass music’s most influential platforms. Signature tracks like “Strangers,” “Rush Over Me,” and “Need Your Love,” along with his 2022 album Beyond the Veil, have solidified his status as a cornerstone of the genre. Onstage, he’s become a touring force—selling out Red Rocks, LA State Historic Park, and the Tacoma Dome, while headlining major festivals including Ultra Miami, EDC Las Vegas, and Electric Forest.

With Seven Lions, Seven Lions offers a world built from the elements that first sparked his artistic voice—fantasy, emotion, detail, and a sense of boundless imagination. The result is a record that looks forward while honoring the foundation that made him one of electronic music’s most beloved creators.
